Glad you like the Viet Cong, saint!

I was kinda hoping that reissue would get a little more promo and fanfare than it has, but it seems to have been released pretty quietly. I bought what seemed to be the only copy of the 12" at Criminal Records last week, and it was sort of hidden away in their "Misc. new stuff" section. Anyway, if their album still gets released this fall, hopefully it gets a stronger push from the label, etc.

...

This has been out since May so it's probably already been talked about a lot, but I like this Ghostface & Badbadnotgood track (w/ Danny Brown):

I hadn't heard this song but I just listened and it didn't really do anything for me. The instrumentation is kind of boring and doesn't really match well with Ghost's flow. It picks up a little bit during the first part of Danny Brown's verse but then goes back to being average. I kinda think Ghost has fallen off for being one of my favorite mc's, since I didn't like that Twelve Reasons To Die album either.

Yeah I don't know, I kind of stopped paying attention to Ghostface years ago because I thought Fishscale was boring. I like Danny Brown's part of this track more than Ghost's anyway.

And I like the minimal track a lot, but then I like that band a lot. I've been listening to this in conjunction with their album III which is really good. They have a pretty terrible band name, though.

Boring might be too strong of a word.

But I guess I was either just tired of him at that time because I'd listened to Supreme Clientele (which I like better) a whole lot just before Fishscale came out, or I was just getting tired of that particular style of hip hop or hip hop in general around then, I don't know.

I think the only rap album I really cared about in 2006 was Clipse.

Just a couple of tracks into my first listen now. Sounds wonderful so far.

Also just gave first listens to the Open Mike Eagle album and the most recent Death Grips. Really enjoyed both.

Not their best, but it has its moments. I think my favorite track is "Halloween."

I've been listening to them a lot over the past few years. Love them.

I was really hoping Numero Group would reissue their stuff after doing those Codeine and (still-going) Unwound ones, and here we go. I think that picture may actually be of the CD version, but I'm sure they'll do a vinyl one. Also if the Codeine and Unwound ones are any indication, the price should be pretty reasonable.

I can't ever hear that band referenced without remembering KPH's encounter with Malkmus.

What happened in KPH's encounter with Malkmus and what did it have to do with Bedhead

edited to add the quote to help call attention to this post because I am legitimately curious about this

Preorder is up for the Bedhead box set. 5LP box that includes all their albums and a bonus singles/etc. disc is $80. Not bad. If you preorder it you get to download the whole thing immediately which I am doing right now.

involved him meeting malkmus in passing, mentioning something about liking the band bedhead (can't recall exactly how/why that came up), and then malkmus spending the rest of the conversation repeatedly saying "BEDHEADBEDHEADBEDHEAD" every time KPH started talking

it's been a LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG time since I've heard that story, so I'm possibly not remembering it entirely accurately, but that's my best recollection of it

Reviewing this one for an online music mag.
It comes out at the end of September and, if you dig freak-out psych stuff, you should be excited. Two listens in and I am loving it.
Check it:
