Seems really early for this but American Songwriter just posted their list:

http://www.americansongwriter.com/2014/ ... bums-2014/

Only about 4-5 things (so far) that will probably make my list but there's a few I haven't heard that I'll check out.

Pretty good list, though their rankings are a bit off, from my perspective. I've heard and, to varying degrees, like each of the following (those in bold are locks to make my year-end best-of list, those in italics have an outside shot):

Quote:
49. Drive By Truckers: English Oceans
47. The New Pornographers: Brill Bruisers
46. Beck: Morning Phase
42. Real Estate: Atlas
38. Old 97s: Most Messed Up
36. Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers: Hypnotic Eye
33. Jack White: Lazaretto
31. Spoon: They Want My Soul
28. Stephen Malkmus & the Jicks: Wig Out at Jagbags
27. TWEEDY: Sukierae

22. Ex Hex: Rips
5. Ryan Adams: Ryan Adams

1. Sturgill Simpson: Metamodern Sounds in Country Music

How do you even submit to any of these rags in the first place?

Can't afford one. Can I hire myself or is there a secret handshake and then you get the email list?

Is it just me or do these lists seem to have the same albums but in different order?

You mean just like they all have for the past several years?

Or like just about every year, maybe.

Here's popmatters:

http://www.popmatters.com/special/secti ... c-of-2014/

I have zero overlap. Think it's probably the first list I've seen that didn't have Sturgill on it.

Could have sworn I saw him on there. He was at least mentioned in the intro to the Americana Top 10.

Anyway, not much overlap on the main list for me, but the Indie Pop top 10 was right up my alley, featuring Literature (on my list), Icypoles and Allo' Darlin (not on my top list but I really like them), and other albums that I haven't checked out yet but will, since I've liked their previous efforts (Pains of Being Pure At Heart, Architecture In Helsinki).

Their metal list is terrible, aside from YOB and Triptykon.
