Hey all, I posted this topic on Darrin's board before I went out of town last week, and got some great input.... thought I'd repost the question here on this board as well as CMJ... don't feel the need to respond to both boards, just whichever one you prefer! I agree with the cheese factor bit, so think heartwarming but still cool!

So... I'm in the midst of a friggin huge kitchen remodel project (that's putting it mildly-- it's more like the bottom half of my house is getting remodeled). Needless to say, funds are extremely tight this year, and I normally like to give close friends gifts in addition to the standard family gifts. This year, I was thinking about putting together a mix cd that would embody joy and warmth. That's where y'all come in... I'm not looking for Christmas-themed songs, but rather songs that make one get the warm-fuzzies, feel good to be alive on this earth and surrounded by wonderful family and friends. One song I already came up with was "In My Life" by the Beatles... I've been so swamped at work this week, I haven't had a lot of time to think about this, so I need your fastidious brains helping me out... any suggestions? I'm not opposed to any genre and it doesn't have to be quiet/acoustic-ish to work. What say ye?

From Phil/Dorkestra: That could get cheezy quick. But it's doable.

Vince Guaraldi Trio - Skating (from A Charlie Brown Christmas

Sly and The Family Stone - Thank You (Falettinme Be Mice Elf Agin)

Carole King and James Taylor - You've Got a Friend

Joni Mitchell - River (hey, it can't ALL be happy feel good, and it's still relevant to the season)

Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong - Dancing Cheek to Cheek

Wilco - Nothing'severgonnastandinmyway (Again)

From Colin/Sketch: Shirley Horn - Here's To Life
The Fire Theft - Sinatra
Blackalicious - Make You Feel That Way
Kaada - Honk
Eugenius - I'm The Sun
Baaba Maal - Allah Addu Jam
Tom Waits - House Where Nobody Lives

I know I'm breaking the no Christmas rule on this one, but...
John Denver & The Muppets - Alfie, The Christmas Tree / It's In Every One Of Us

From Darrin/Konstantin: How about some 70's experimental art rock band covering a hymn?

Can - Silent Night

Best song ever. Really!

From PopTodd: You want feel-good?

Apples In Stereo - Seems So
Sam & Dave - Thank You
Brinsley Schwarz - Happy Doing what We're Doing
The Turtles - Love Is All Around
Lovin' Spoonful - Daydream

I'd second the Low Christmas album recommendation, if we weren't necessarily looking for an Xmas theme, so instead I'll suggest a couple songs off of their Trust that are both wintry and warm:

"The Last Snowstorm of the Year"
"Point of Disgust", or even
"Tonight"

I love that band.
