but i didn't realize how closely i resemble a monkey. My ape-ish children will be ridiculed for life.

Nah, they'll be fine. Look at the Olsen twins.

This has probably already been mentioned, but a baby orangutan is not a monkey. Orangutans are apes. Tree-living apes, but still apes. Pongo Pygmaeus.

frostingspoon, the specific epithet pygmaeus is not to be capitalized. In addition, the binomial descriptor (genus + species) should either be underlined or italicized, hence:

Pongo pygmaeus

or

Pongo pygmaeus

p.s. has anyone picked up on my avatar yet? kocf/quiche hasn't.

p.p.s. if ryan's monkeyboy pick was an emoticon, what emotion would it be conveying?

It hit me in yr. response to KOCF/Quiche

Chuck D = Charles Darwin, aka the pic..n'est-ce pas?

I think mine fits me pretty well.

My avatar, for those painfully ignorant fools who don't know, is the emblem of Postcard Records of Scotland. I believe it was originally taken from a Victorian childrens book by someone with a fancy sounding name (forgotten).
