Pine Tar.

Though however hard they may try, none of those fuckbags is good enough to carry the pine tar-stained jock of George Brett.

I thought it was illegal to muck up the bat with pine tar. Didn't Brett get in some controversy over that?

yes. the rule is that the pine tar cannot exceed a certain length on the bat. billy martin knew that george brett's bat had more pine tar than allowed and he waited until brett hit a homer to state his case. the royals played the rest of the game under protest and the league sided with them. the yankees lost the rematch.

It's illegal to go a certain distance down the barrel, which he did, even though he had done it for months and the Yankees had staked it out. It was a psych out move on Brett rather than evening out the playing field.

It's also illegal to muck up the helmets, especially to the point of obscuring the team emblem, so I would bet MLB will make a statement after the season to clean things up a bit.

Brett was big on the pine tar, but these guys apply the shit with a spatula on their off days. Sorta like the frat boys who used to buy a new hat then rub it on the sidewalk so it looked roughed up and old.

EDIT: Z beat me to it while I was typing.

got to admit it's getting bigger, getting bigger all the time.

i think they recently instituted limits. which is good for scoring and makes the great goalies look even better and the worse ones look even worse.

i'm for it. the greats (brodeur, formerly roy, i'm guaranteeing kiprusoff) will still shine through.

They're called pads. Goal pads. Shin guards are soccer, errrr football. Or maybe field hockey which is called just plain hockey by millions of people but it's different than real hockey. Which is played on ice, and the goalies wear pads.

I hope this clears everything up.
