"Dog Problems" is so damn good. Syruppy, buttery, chocolatey good pop music. Part Queen, part Fruit Bats...I love this album.

Yeah, it's pretty darn good. Even the few songs I didn't like at first ended up growing on me. I hope they're good live, cuz I'm seeing them on Saturday.

Three opening bands, though. I hate opening bands.

If the Format is a guilty pleasure, then I am a harden criminal cus' I've been listening to them ever since I moved out to PHX in 02'. I just love it went a local bands finally gets some national attention. Seen these guys about a half dozen times at various venues around the PHX area, and they are a great live band....highly recommended

I've been meaning to get back to this album because of all of the praise, but haven't done so yet. Maybe this weekend.

On the first couple of spins, the album just didn't do much for me.

Yeah, Dog Problems is pretty damn good. Guilty would be something like Nelly Furtado.

Me either. For me, it might be an age thing, I don't know about you. While I think they're far superior to much of what's out there, and was impressed with what I heard, I think they fall into the grouping of things that are just too "young" for me or something. I liked what was going on, but it really feels like "teenager music" to me, and there's something going on vocally that just sounds like a lot of other popular pop-punk bands that really does not appeal to me. Like I said, they seem to be reaching beyond what most young bands are, and this is kind of sad to say, but I get this feeling that I'm just getting too old for some of this stuff, and this is one of those bands. I really felt like I needed to be just out of high school or early in college, maybe just out of a relationship, to really "get" this. I am far from either situation, and it just seemed rather, um, silly for me to be listening to it. I just couldn't connect with the music or the lyrics.

I completely hear where you're coming from. The first few listens for me, I was hesitant to like it for pretty much the exact same reasons you stated. Hell, I think in the original thread about them I said as much. But it was just too damn hooky to ignore. I ended up playing it non-stop for a few weeks.

I just hope they're as good live as people have been saying, because I'm leaving to see them in about a half hour. And I hope that Anathallo band (however you spell it) is as good live as has been recommended as well. Because I'm leaving early just to see them.

the singer of the format is way good - his performace is GREAT

if i remember right they did 4 old songs...the rest new (pretty much the full album)
first single, tie the rope, sore thumb, wait wait wait

Well, THAT sucked. I drove all the way downtown only to be surprised by the fact that there's a fucking Rams pre-season game tonight. There was no parking to be found anywhere, unless I was willing to shell out $30. On top of the ticket, that's $42, and way more than I was willing to spend on this band. What a waste.

On the plus side, I picked up a bottle of rum on the way home, so I'll be feeling much better quickly.

Sometimes just listening to something is enough. I dont feel the need to 'get' everything, and I think this is aurally pleasing and a huge leap from their first record.

I don't even know who the Format is, but if someone is considering them a "guilty pleasure" I'd probably love them.

I also consider this a guilty pleasure. It's just so sugary. I've had one of their songs stuck in my head for about a month now and still love it.
