Hey Joe. The book is pretty good - presents a pretty good picture and doesn't fanboyize. I learned a lot about his life that casts some light on the themes of his songs without rendering any of them trite. Unfortunately, none of the people who were really close to Elliott gave interviews for the book, including Neil Gust and Sam Coomes (from Heatmiser) or Jennifer Chiba (the girlfriend) or Smith's parents. But he did get to interview childhood friends, some musicians and close acquaintances, and all of the producers who worked on the new album (except Jon Brion, but Elliott apparently trashed those tapes - see the neat stuff you learn!). It's worth a read - I didn't get bored, and I don't really like bios.
