Ok, so it's probably a little too honky-tonk for some of you around here (and I know that it's definitely too honky-tonk for any of my friends at home) but it's a solid live album. Plus I've always liked Bobby Bare, both Senior and Junior.

Dixie Bell she's southern fried

Give her greasy grit gravy and gizzard greens.

Does it sound like Joe Ely?

Edit: Allmusic doesn't think much of the Live At Gilley's disc. :(

Just picked this one up for a buck:

AllMusic Wrote:
A much-needed and well-assembled compilation of the artist's non-Velvet Crush material, The Ballad of Ric Menck collects 11 sparkling indie single sides, all of them rendered with master pop craftsmanship. Perhaps most notable are the half-dozen cuts Menck recorded with Paul Chastain and friends under the name the Springfields for the legendary Sarah Records label, among them beautifully jangly originals such as "Sunflower" and "Wonder," as well as covers like the Hollies' "Clown" and Matthew Sweet's "Are We Gonna Be Alright"; as with the pair of Choo Choo Train tracks which lead off the disc, this is all essential material which has been out of print for far too long -- a tip of the hat to Summershine for finally making it available again.
-4.5 Stars

Have yet to hear it, but it sounds promising.

I need to pick up Soft Sounds, but Teenage Symphonies to God remains one of my favorite power pop records of all-time. Looking forward to hearing this thing.

My latest bargains were a thrift store stop yesterday that yielded 5 albums with about a dozen records each and 20 singles discs, all 78s, mostly western swing, Spade Cooley, Bob Wills, Tex Ritter, Earnest Tubb, etc... Been having a ton of fun slapping stacks of them on the changer. Gotta get to cleanin' 'em up soon so I can get a better listen without all the dirt and grime in those old grooves. The whole collection looks pretty darn nice condition wise though. The discs look in really nice shape underneath a layer of dirt, not all scratched up or anything. I did leave behind a couple stacks of square dance records though.

my latest bargains might not be considered bargains in the traditional sense but i hit grimeys just as they were putting out a recent purchase - original british sgt pepper, revolver, rubber soul, help, plus meet the beatles, hey jude lp, 1962-66, exile, sticky fingers with zipper, between the buttons, plus a few assorted classics (band on the run, green river) all in mint condition with nm covers, really well taken care of.

Just hit Borders today. Our store is closing its doors on Thursday and everything is now 70 to 90% off. So, of course, I found a couple of deals.
For $5 each:

Hate to see Borders go, but I love that I was able to pick these up for so cheap. (That Sea & Cake is a 2011 release.)

Wow, five bucks, huh? Looks like Borders knocked off 90% on them 2. No wonder bookstores are going out of business- they price everything so high and wonder why they don't get any sales.

Actually, they were 70% on these. But yeah, Borders always has been overpriced.

Listening to this one today, I forgot that I found it at a bargain bin at Tower Records back in 1994 for $1.
Japanese import, now out of print and going for as much as $125.
Plus, it's just a great freaking collection.

Yesterday, I picked up all of these for a total of $6:
• The Replacements - Don't Sell or Buy, It's Crap
• Los Lobos - The Neighborhood
• Billy Bragg & Wilco - Mermaid Ave., Vol. 2
• The Amps - Pacer
• Del Amitri - Twisted
• Fatboy Slim - Halfway Between the Gutter and the Stars

Great day.
Most excited about that Amps record. I loved it back in the day, but lost it in a flood a few years back. So happy to have it again.

Yeah I wish I could shopping spree sometime soon (even in the dollar bins). Gotta pay some taxes though.

I've been meaning to revisit The Amps. Didn't dig it in high school, but I think it was just too mellow for me at the time.

The Amps, to me, are part of that mid-nineties fog-punk sound I thought was perfect music, at the time. RIYL: Smoking Popes, Kristin Hersh
