just bought these records

Earlimart - Treble and Tremble
Tom Waits - Real Gone

those who've heard both please weigh in....they sounded pretty good in the store last night, but I'm just cracking them open now

I'm not sure how to vote.

I bought Earlimart but not the Waits record. I heard there was turntablism on the new Waits record and ran away scared.


I listened to the Earlimart in the store and liked it. After 2 listens I thought it was just another Grandaddy/Elliot Smith indie rock rekkid.

But, I posted about this yesterday, it has grown on me nicely. I like it quite a bit now actually.

I voted 5 for the Waits. Have only heard Earlimart all the way through once, but would give that listen at least a 4 and like the individual tracks that pop up on Launchcast.

I'd give 3.5 obners to the Waits record. It's good, but it's not great. It's somewhat formulaic. I think it's a step down from one of Alice or Blood Money, whichever was better ... Alice?

I've only heard the Earlimart, but I assumed the voting was divorced from the rest of the thread, so I went for 5 obners.

nobody wants more than one obner, unless there is more than one girl, or unless it's a girl that wants more than one.

Yikes. I'd say exactly the opposite. Real Gone is six steps up from the creative stagnation of Alice and Blood Money. Incidentally, I'd also say the question "whichever was better... Alice?" is definite proof of how interchangeably bad those albums were.

earlimart 4 and waits 3.5. the waits album will satisfy waits fans, but generally sticks less than other albums.
