Aw man. I'm so sorry to hear about this Phil. I've been fortunate enough to not have any of my close friends have to go through this.

But, if they did, I'd say to lean on your friends and family. As they say, "pain is inevitable, suffering is optional". Only advice I can give is to be constructive with your time. Keep yourself occupied. Write some music, get some exercise. At the very least, when all is said and done and you've come out on the other side, you'll have a few new tunes and gotten more healthy.

Damn. Not that I expect this from anyone, though I should, I guess given divorce rates, but this sucks. Of course, I am reminded of Louis CK's "Hilarious" every time I hear about it. I can't find a video of the one where he specifically talks about people that say they're sorry for hearing that their friend went through a divorce. To sum up he's like, "look, no good marriage ever ended in divorce". Anyway, he's hilarious and I thought that this could at least maybe lighten the mood a bit if it's heavy:
