Saw the two Santa Clara shows and the Sat and Sun shows in Chicago. We were going to the Friday show too but our friend who was meeting us with the tickets "did some methadone" (???) in the parking lot and disappeared - in a sense it was a perfect detail to the death of the Dead.

Although I am one who thinks there is no GD possible after Jerry's death, by Sunday night Trey was solidly pumping up the music with his own personality. Jerry was a continual seeker, Trey just wants to show you what he knows... but he was wise not to try to imitate Garcia.

Although I first saw them in 1971, and saw them a lot over the years (and certainly became a Wharf Rat in every sense), I never considered myself a deadhead, although I married one. But Jesus was Sunday emotional... end of the hippie, etc. All in all, a little bit further than you gone before...

Fascinating stuff, Harry.

I had a good time. I enjoyed dormant dead fans coming out of the woodwork. I liked all the conversations and speculation. i loved the community that it reignited. I even liked all the whining and complaining. It was all fun.

Musically it was good but not great, with a few moments that happily surprised me. I could have done without the hour long chunk in each show that slowed to molasses of weird bleeps and bloops and non songs. But for some people that was the best part. I thought Trey was alright. I'd prefer John K (the fake Jerry from Further) but Trey had his moments. I think he both impressed me and solidified the fact that I'll likely never be a Phish fan.

I'm excited to see what this all inspires.

Day of the Dead is almost upon us.
I'm intrigued by Fucked Up being on this.
