Europe '72: The Complete Recordings is a live album by the rock band the Grateful Dead. Billed as a "mega box set", it contains all of the band's spring 1972 concert tour of Europe — 22 complete shows, on 73 CDs. It was released on September 1, 2011.

The CDs for the album were created by remixing the original 16-track analog tapes. The album was remastered in HDCD format. This provides enhanced sound quality when played on CD players with HDCD capability, but is fully compatible with conventional CD players.

The first 7,200 copies of the album are each encased in a box that looks like a steamer trunk. They include an illustrated hardcover book and other bonus material. Subsequent copies of the album have individual packaging for each concert, and do not include the book or the other extras.

Four previous live albums were taken from the band's 1972 European tour. Europe '72 was released in 1972 as a triple LP, and later rereleased as double CD, and has vocal tracks that were overdubbed in the recording studio. Hundred Year Hall is a two-disc CD taken from the April 26 concert in Frankfurt. Steppin' Out with the Grateful Dead: England '72 is a four-disc CD of selections from various concerts in England. And Rockin' the Rhein with the Grateful Dead, on three discs, contains the complete concert from April 24 in Düsseldorf.

We need ground rules.

How are we, uh, transmitting the remains so to speak?

I'd say since Bloor has them, he throws one a week in the box (or some other agreed upon temporal interval). And then we're off.

I guess we start with: April 7 – Wembley Empire Pool, London, England.

Are you saying we should start NOW or like, next week or something?

Lest we feel overwhelmed, I should point out that this is actually less "volumes" (34) than Dick's Picks (36)

The challenge here will be the more consistent style. With the Dick's Picks series, we would pop from psychedelic space rock in 1968 to Disco Dead in '77 to some abortion from the 90s. It kept things a little interesting. Not that this isn't going to be "interesting", listening to an entire tour is terra incognita for this mountain man.

It will be interesting see how the shows that make up this set sound when they're not chopped up.

In other news a law firm I know mentioned "accepting a settlement from Sandoz" today at a lunch I was at. I visibly stiffened, but now I see an opportunity.

are these done as strait shows, or do they do the normal dick's picks thing of throwing in a few randoms and reorganizing to fit on the CDs

This. Each one of those 34 volumes contains a whole night's show (the first one, for example is three discs) and a .jpg cover.

Yeah I just finished the 1st disc of the 4/7 show and it's really great.

I'm going to try to participate a bit here but my background with the Dead and their songs isn't nearly as vast as the 5 or so of you dudes
