Allmusic says Ágætis Byrjun came out in 1999, which it did in Iceland--but not til 2000/1 in the US. If I am technically playing by my rules, it'd be in the 6-pack.

Also, Summerteeth came out in 99, but I just wasn't sold on Wilco then. I love the record now, but in 99 I wasn't listening to it heavily.

The best albums these guys ever did (IMO):

Great year. Flaming Lips and Built to Spill would be in my top 6.

Bonnie 'Prince' Billy, Jim O'Rourke, and Sparklehorse are great as well.

Interesting. Didn't peg this to be something you'd dig. I remember when it came out and I added it to our college station's "heavy" rotation. I don't think we were "in" on the joke back then though. Press release and Allmusic were all we had. It wasn't until later that I found out the truth.

I have tried a dozen or so times with that Dismemberment Plan album (and I own it) but just never found greatness there. A nice little indie record but never understood the hysterical indie fawning that was happening at the time.

I agree with most of the usual suspects here and will add:

Olivia Tremor Control - Black Foliage: Animation Music Vol. 1
Supergrass - S/T
Sleater-Kinney - The Hot Rock

This was also the year that Moby ruined music but I think most of his popularity did't come until 2000 since he milked "Play" for almost 2 years.

Some of the worst shit ever like Creed and the "almost the end of music" album Santana's "Supernatural".

Also, seemed like almost every college girl in the world had this at the time:

Pop was pretty horrible from '97-'99. (After that I mostly wasn't paying attention.)

Guess this one could slip in there for me, too:

The 2000 Damien Jurado record is much better, imo.

And, I really liked The Blue Moods of Spain better than their follow-up.

Disagree on both counts although I'm sure Blue Moods of Spain would also be an album I'd consider for whatever year that came out in. The new Spain is certainly in my top five this year too.

I haven't heard the Jurado album from 2000, but I don't really like Rehearsals for Departure that much.

A good friend of mine was really into Spain around this time, and I still don't think I've ever really listened to them.
