A good year for me, it was the year that I was first introduced to underground/college rock via Meat Puppets. They had 2 great releases this year, and I will NOT pick just one of 'em!
Also the first year I really gave rap a fair shake.

Kinda rough year!

+1
Sonic Youth - Sister
Big Black - Songs about Fucking
Meat Puppets - Huevos

and the Swans album is pretty good. For me they really hit their stride in the '90s.

I am not a fan of those U2 and Prince albums, but I'm sure I'm mostly alone there.

My 6:

Dinosaur Jr. - You're Living All Over Me
Eric B. & Rakim - Paid in Full
The Dukes of Stratosphear - Psonic Psunspots
Melvins - Gluey Porch Treatments
Butthole Surfers - Locust Abortion Technician
Tom Waits - Frank's Wild Years

Haha, to be fair I didn't hear CoG until the 90s when they re-released it with World of Skin in 97.

Well yeah I didn't hear them in the '80s either. Not the ideal soundtrack for elementary school.

But, you know, I don't really take that perspective in these threads. I wasn't born yet in 1974, for instance, so it would make it kinda difficult. It's not about how I felt about these albums at the time.
