I was wondering if you were going to do any of the 2000s.

Big +1 on Murray St, the best post-Daydream SY album.

In 2002 there would've been a race to see who could post the Notwist first.

Naw, Notwist came in 19th on the shmoo poll that year actually. Strangely, only three of that year's top 20 have been posted in this thread so far (Wilco, Sonic Youth, Walkmen).

I wasn't on the CMJ board in 2002, but my favorites from that year didn't really solidify themselves until the following couple of years.

My #1 (Songs: Ohia) remains the same as it would have been at the time, but the rest of my Top 10 is pretty different. The Notwist probably would have been on there along with Wilco, Enon, The Flaming Lips, Boards of Canada, and a few other things. Those particular albums by those artists haven't really up held that well for me.

I hadn't heard anything by Deerhoof, Racebannon, or Black Dice until 2003. I wasn't really into the Walkmen album when it first came out, but it started to grow on me big time starting at around the end of the year. I hated that Kevin Drumm album until maybe 2004 or later.

Oops. I meant to put Black Letter days in there but I'll just second in advance whoever else names it.

Great year though....probably the best of the decade. Both deep and with excellent albums at the top. I went pretty batshit crazy over a lot of albums.

For me, this was a year that for the records I liked I really liked, but it wasn't as deep a year for me personally.

I agree that this is the best and deepest year of the decade. Big seconds on:
BSS
Walkmen
Interpol
