I haven't even heard their first record yet. I need to get on the ball with these guys.
Thanks for the reminder.

Gonna go order the vinyl now without hearing first. Loved the debut.

Anybody know the difference between the standard and deluxe vinyl? If it is just heavier vinyl, the regular is fine.

Who'da thunk the debut was their dance punk album? Holy narcolepsy.

Rads, I would have thought you'd like this. Not at all?

Not awful, but not doing it for me. They subtracted most of what I thought was interesting (the faint R&B influence, the suggestion of JAMC) and what's left just feels timid and precious.

i do like it, but it also sounds a bit samey. i can only remember 3-4 tracks after it ends.

The first album was made with a 4th person who ended up leaving, right? I wonder if that could explain why this one is quieter.

Yeah, definitely quieter but I still like it. I like how, for me anyway, they do an excellent job of changing a bit and incorporating new sounds while still retaining a very recognizable character of their own. It sounds different than the first album but it still sounds like the XX. I always think that's one of the trickier wires for a band to walk. Still, they don't seem to have as good a batch of songs for me. It's a nice listen long form, but none of the individual songs really jump out as being particularly catchy or memorable like on the last album, maybe Fiction off this one comes closest.
