Stop Breathin' Wrote: Have you heard that Savages record yet? I played the stream from NPR the other day, and I remember enjoying it, but I also don't remember a thing about it or at any point saying, I can't wait to hear it again either.....I'll give it another spin though before I make a call....Great album cover though.... |

Although this falls more into jangle pop territory, if you're a Rose Melberg/Softies/Go Sailor fiend like myself you should know about PUPS. Name your price on bandcamp http://puppiesforever.bandcamp.com/ |

http://booksoflove.bandcamp.com/ members of the Vivian Girls..... This is what I'm digging!!!!! Quote: While hiking past the Griffith Observatory in Los Angeles, friends Katy Goodman and Greta Morgan were struck with the idea to record a song together: A song about physics and love, science and romance, space and time. Have you ever felt the lovesick pain of falling for someone from a different dimension? We have too.
The next morning, the girls recorded "Space Time" in Greta's tiny rehearsal space in Glassell Park. While "Space Time" may not be a hit in this dimension yet, the song is topping charts in many others. The girls have plans to tour the Andromeda Galaxy this summer, appear in Bode's Galaxy this Fall, and make an appearance at the Omega-Palooza Festival to break up the 2.9 million light-year long trip home. Until then, they will continue enjoying life in this space-time, where Katy is writing the next La Sera album and Greta is about to embark on a tour with The Hush Sound. |

Yeah I like that Books of Love stuff, which I think makes it 3 for 3 of Vivian Girls side projects that I like more than the standard band. Also the vocals remind me of something I've heard before. I wanted to say it was this one, and I think it's close, but maybe not quite. |

Hey TK, a few more recs if you're still in the market for some and haven't heard some of the following: If you liked the Aisler's Set rec from earlier in the thread, make sure you look into Amy's earlier band Henry's Dress. A bit noisier in places maybe but still some of that drenched reverbery-garage feel in much of the work. The Haircuts--esp "Sorrow is the Way to Love" album. I'm not sure how easy this is to find...more kind of bedroom pop stuff (recorded on home 4-track but still has a nice chugging garagey sound on some songs). Tiger Trap--another of Rose Melberg's bands but probably the loudest one. Slumber Party--I would recommend this band highly for you...maybe a bit slower and dirge-like more so than the other bands above, but if you're looking for something more towards the "darker" Raveonettes type of sound, I would def rec this band: Saturday Looks Good To Me--so not completely girl vox--it's probably 60% Fred Thomas' voice--but throughout the years he's had awesome female vocalists--and the style of music might be right up your alley: |
