I picked up a great selection of Slim Disc flexis with some lovely discs inside an A4 folder, the blue/red sleeved discs both duplicates and are a mixture of classical music and spoken word 2 x card flexis's |

seven inches found in cheap bins an unholy trio of Noel Edmonds + Barclays Bank + soft rockers Home, though it's hard to tell if it's a real signature inside the gate-fold promo EP - yours free with bottle tops from Havana Club rum Jackie Trent and Tony Hatch wrote and released this song for Stoke City F.C. back in 1972 I actually picked this up on a market stall just outside Stoke for a pound the other week. These weird music for schools EP's are getting harder to find now, complete with instructions for dance interpretation on the rear - I mistook the persephone for an instrument at first Square promotional flexi-disc for the ill fated Strand brand, more info:https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Strand_(cigarette) I like Viv's honesty on the label credits a curious/religious/scarce/odd 7" from 1986 A previously unknown 7" private pressing from the mid 60's, more info: http://www.45cat.com/label/excel-services This is possibly signed by a member of the band but I couldn't find much info on them |

Gardener, Are these albums that you have been looking for, heard of, or are just taking a chance on? The styles seem extremely random. How are you able to listen to and digest all of them? |

Vinyl finds about town Various bits and bobs at the re-use centre today including this which I'd not seen or heard of before. I picked up a bunch of Xian Folk the other week from a shop closing down and went back for a few more as some turned out to be really nice and pretty scarce too, Christ knows how I missed these ones this one really hit the spot when I was chilling in my cave Sunday afternoon, a local group it seems as there was a concert programme inside the sleeve too. hidden inside another LP was this flexi-disc, which turns out to have a Christian story on it, not sure it came with the LP that I found it in This LP turned out to be good, a compilation of old Listen & Move E.P.'s (I think I have a few somewhere) I could find nothing out about this album version, it's unrelated to the scarce Daphne Oram record below, I think... These picture discs were lurking in a charity shop bin, I'm a sucker for these even though the sound quality can be iffy. |

How are you able to listen to and digest all of them? If I like it I'll keep it and maybe play it on my radio show, I'll generally take an educated punt on stuff that takes my interest. Or I will end up exchanging it with fellow collecting chums for something I like or throw it back into the wild, or sell it at a car boot sale come summer. I don't post up everything I find, but the ones I hope will be of interest to other collectors. |

I won a box of albums at an auction recently and flicking through the ones I fancied I came across a couple of nice inner sleeves which took my eye. It prompted me to dig into my racks to see what other pretty inners I could find and here are some I'd like to share. UK mid 70's advertising - this one was in a hits compilation Pye mid 60's + poly-lined Pye early 60's with LP's on one side EP's on the flip Mid 70's vinyl cleaning products available at Wollies - a bit tatty but a keeper This houses my Dynaflex (a kind of bendy vinyl) US copy of Ziggy Stardust UK poly-lined inner fforr Ffrr Records UK mid 60's folk/blues/jazz imprint Transatlantic Records Beautiful UK poly-lined inner came with my copy of White Light White Heat French poly-lined for RCA Records Ciggie advertising from an Indian album Lovely late 50's/early 60's US inner for Liberty Records This is probably my favourite inner - US London/Deram Records from the late 60's |

Cousin of a friend moved into a new house and said they had a box of "crappy old country records that no one probably wants," but they knew I collected records so was welcome to them if I wanted as long as I'd take them away. Turned out to be a couple hundred records, about half of which were pretty crappy, but also about a dozen old Elvis records, including early pressings of his first few, a couple Carl Perkins records, Jerry Lee Lewis, bunch of old rockabilly stuff, a stack of Ventures and other early 60s instrumental records. Also a copy of Waylon Jennings: Honky Tonk heroes and a few more classic country albums. A half dozen or so oldies collections that have a ton of good stuff on 'em. A Danny & the Juniors record, some Springsteen. Still sorting through 'em all. Not a bad haul for nothing. Mix of originals and reissues, no outer covers so some of the covers are a bit worn but they seem to have been stored well and the records themselves are all in fantastic shape with many looking barely played if at all. Here's a shot of one of 'em spinning: |

bits + bobs found out + about The eternal question is finally answered and it involves Wagner and volcanoes. Fully signed (I have to assume as there were 5 of them - I checked, one signed it twice) debut 7" by Dorset's finest A suitably grim sleeve for this Robert Wyatt 7" I'd not seen before. I picked up several original cast soundtracks from the 60's in an auction lot like this one. This beautiful blue vinyl LP which comes with the full book of the title inside the gate-fold was a kind present. Some nice Library records found in charity shop bins - mixed in with the classical records which is why I assume they were still there. One extreme to the other, three of these albums were in the same box! From Summer Camp in 1972 to Concentration Camp in 1945 spoken word in 1975 Thrash metal madness in 1988 I couldn't resist this 50p CD lurking in the racks |

recent finds in boxes under coats in charity shops French album of Portuguese guitar music - alright love, it's not that bad. One of Lenny's old stand-up shows released in 1974 on Phil Spector's own label, Bill Hicks must have been a fan. Billy Butlin eating a childs hand on the front of this LP from 1971. Late 60's folk album which could easily pass for a Belle & Sebastian sleeve. He didn't make many records but the B side of his debut is one of his best. I can only assume 'hilarious boners' meant something else in the 60's. I can't help picking up these promo advertising discs and although this one does feature ABBA & M*A*S*H on one side, it does have the dreaded New Seekers doing a hits medley on the flip. Best find of the week by some distance was this 7" - I'd never even seen a RZ demo in the wild before and luckily I had an original company sleeve for it, I do have a box especially for such occasions. like I need any more, I still couldn't resist these 50p CD's. |

Q: when is a record not a record? A: when it's a party invitation! It's a flexi-disc but has no music/speech on either side and it comes in a proper 7" sleeve but is actually just a invitation. |

Fresh things I've found charity shops and one thing I bought in a proper shop A sweet flexi find on the front of an old Private Eye Teach yerself ballet kit with added paperwork including a quite strict returns policy From the same box, the artwork on the sleeve of this German pressing makes it another dance related LP A fairly obscure library music album on Oak, however it really doesn't sound in the least bit African A red label Trailer Records collection of Ye Olde Geordie songs I have found a right hotchpotch of weird singles recently and certainly none weirder than this! A one-sided, white label test pressing from the early 70's at a guess : download the beast http://www.mediafire.com/file/7t753tk2ts9ma15/Suck_The_Cats_Brains_Out_MP3.mp3 A pair of football records I don't think I already have, the Brighton one is a 12" btw I probably paid more for this lovely new picture disc than all the other records above put together |

this week I got me some new old vinyl along with new new vinyl treats Space Age pop from '58. I had to "sit" to listen to this. "G" string sadly long gone but the outline of one is still just visible on the sleeve. Quite nice Xian folk from '79 by Brian Wilson but my guess is not the Brian Wilson. It wouldn't be a good week without finding a few flexi-discs and some unexpected delights I had not come across before The original version as used recently on TV ooh, those cheeky loco's A nice pair of albums I can recommend that I have picked up online https://sdzrecords.bandcamp.com/album/rose-mercie https://www.aciddad.com/ |

some recent super seven inch finds A curious find in a charity shop bin, more info here http://www.45cat.com/record/dlc6791 suitably creepy (crawly) sound effects With relegation from the Premiership looming for WBA it was all so different 50 years ago hilarious A great organ and fuzzy guitar tune I have tried playing this bizarre 3 holed copy but it's the middle one that still works best nice UK promo of the Spaghetti Western whistler - produced by the German Jack White A reggae tune about getting a headache from smoking too much weed, probably find of the week was this single I had never come across before, a catchy cut from the Mothers at Fillmore East LP |

more seven inches, mostly from the first car boot of the season - hurrah! A great Mick Ronson cover version from 1980 in an exclusive German picture cover. Late period Slits The sound of old aeroplanes on a mini-lp in a fold-out sleeve and promise of a poster, sadly missing This is the first time I have seen this BBC themes mega-mix (credited to Tony Blackburn's producer Phil "the collector" Swern) The same goes for this Glammy Pop which I completely missed out on at the time A KB 7" that never seems to crop up very often A mysterious one sided acetate with no info only a folky tune on it the only single ever released by C.O.B. which stands for Clive's Original Band - Clive Palmer that is Probably the rarest find of the week was this theme to the Sherlock Holmes movie from 1965 The same song that Cliff came 2nd with at Eurovision in 1968 - how strange that the label name checks the festival Written and produced my the late Bill Maynard - the BMA logo was no doubt separated at birth with 4 track official bootleg from 1978 A football record I had never seen before, in an ad heavy gate-fold sleeve LFC piccy disc with a promo sticker, blimey! |

I only went to one car boot this morning but it was a local village garage sale that came up trumps with a big haul of rock albums at £2 a pop including Sabbath, Yes, Floyd etc, to find all the Led Zeppelin back catalogue in one box was a first for me. They were not the best finds of the glorious sunny day but I was glad I dragged myself up and out at 6am. All in lovely condition and an In Through The Out Door I didn't have which makes it 3 down 3 to go. Swansong released the LP in 6 different sleeves - you got it in a paper bag so never knew which one would be in it. There were several Who albums too, the smartest of the bunch was this UK first pressing with booklet. The sweetest of £1 garage sale finds (the guy literally went into his garage and pulled out a pile of LP's from a cupboard) was this beautiful UK original of their debut from '65, it's a keeper! The same pile had this boxed album sitting on the bottom, it even came with the original drumsticks, "I bought it for my son in the 60's but he never used it" Back of the box lists a mind-boggling amount of other releases on the same label Early 60's TV space show theme, I wasn't too fussed it didn't have the original picture sleeve |

lovely finds at the car boots/charity shops/record fair this week This selection of 3 for £1 mostly Punk/New Wave 7"s including an original New Rose and various Sex Pistols, Clash etc had only just come into RSPCA, the lady said she put the box on the floor 10 minutes earlier so it was just lucky timing really, When she said "oh, the man also dropped a lot of LP's off too, are you interested in those"? it was music to my ears. There were The Stranglers, Cure etc but a few I didn't already have including this LP with the sticker intact. I have the Rezillos albums but not their other spookily similar incarnation. The pick of a handful of Reggae albums A nice MM compilation featuring some previously unreleased tracks I nearly left this in a 50p box but curiosity got the better of me and I flipped it over to find it signed by Tommy, Tony & Pete! A 2nd hand record shop was clearing out of it's stock at 50p a pop but I found only a couple of 7"s of interest, this one is a tribute disc released after the Kings Cross fire of 1987, signed on the front by one of the victim's father. The other single was by someone cursed with a similar name to a famous guitarist, and came with a signed picture of him + his merry band meeting HRH The Queen Mother. Best buys of the week were at the local record fair when a chap came in with a box of LP's and walked straight up to me and asked if I was interested in any, there were various Simon & Garfunkel, Byrds etc but pick of the box was this first pressing, no EMI label credit, mono, top opening beauty - I made him a fair offer and he was happy. The other nice one was this first Transatlantic pressing of BJ's debut gracing my deck below. |

Just got this lovely 7" picture disc which came with a game called Foto-Finish in the late 50's. It features commentary of a horse race on each side in which six horses are named. There are six near-identical tracks (and six start-points on the edge of the disc) so that the race is run but you have no idea of which horse will win until the end of the race. So (in the game or on its own) you can bet on the random outcome. It's similar to Totopoly and was made in South Africa but have little other info. |

Had a great sunny tromp around the car boots this morning, finding all sorts of goodies, including some punk 7"s folk oddities and even a Beatles flexi-disc. But the best score by far was a whole lotta Jazz from a couple of old boys who were knocking them out at a £2 each, they were happy to see them go as they "hate Jazz" but even though I am no expert I could tell they were all minty so just hoovered them all up and strangely no-one else there was interested in buying old records, it's been one of those days! |
