This is great. It is the project Charles Bullen did after the dissolution of the legendary This Heat. It is the sort of album which gives a good name to the word "fusion". It's like a happy, joyful This Heat.

'Good Side' is an absolute corker of a track that sounds like 'Remain In Light' era Talking Heads collaborating with Animal Collective. It's brilliantly uplifting afro-influenced pop music, rhythmically fascinating. Elsewhere the opening 'For a Reason' foreshadows Bullen's interest in dub textures, with low pumping dub bass being joined by oddly affected spindly guitars and the odd vocal inflection. It's the more upbeat tracks however that really inspire, 'Decide' sounds not unlike Tortoise heading into reggae territories with a wonderful pulsing bass line and skittering, chit chatting guitars.

A fascinating record and very essential to anyone who enjoyed the recent This Heat re-issues. This is lighter on it's feet more influenced by reggae and soul and less clanking but a really interesting postscript to the This Heat story. Superb re-issue as always on Light In the Attic.
