I got an automated call from my insurance provider asking if I wanted to be in a study. A little digging and I found out that I might be at risk. Enough that my doc sent me an e-mail through the provider's website although it never came to my personal e-mail and I never got a phone call about it. That was on Christmas Eve. Since then, I've quit smoking, I've severely limited my drinking to maybe 4 drinks a week, tops. I've given a wide berth to carbs, and I'm mostly eating nuts, fruit, meat and greens. I'm back in the gym. I'm cranky and want a cigarette, but I really don't want the beetus. Thoughts, advice, and anecdotes welcome. Maybe the beetus isn't so bad and I should get back on the nicotrain? Choo choo. |

Any time you feel the urge for a smoke, masturbate instead. |

I have to imagine the nic cravings will go away, whereas diabeetus would not (he said, unhelpfully). |

Keep it up Phil. Smoking is a disgusting habit that wastes a shit ton of money. Think of all the cash you are saving. You are not abnormal in your crankiness, you're just becoming more like the rest of us. I wish I had the self discipline to go to a gym or go for daily jogs...but instead I keep myself too busy and lazy to make the effort. |

Year before last, my doc started fussing at me about my blood sugar being right on the borderline. I marginally adjusted some eating habits, nothing major, though. I had already mostly quit drinking about 5 years ago. This time last year, it was no longer borderline, it was pill time. I sort of suspect that the blood sample was taken too soon after a holiday season of eating everything made of sugar I could get my hands on. Long story short, I've been taking the pills, last blood work in January came back under the borderline. If you are at risk, I encourage you to do the life-style changes, and see if you can control it that way. As for me, I'm an old guy and I'm going to get a handful of peanut M&M's. |

Hoping my lack of any real sweet tooth keeps me from having THIS problem. Make no mistake, something will go horribly wrong, but hopefully it won't be The Sugar. |
