Just wanted to share this project that I am very lucky to be working on. Gord Downie of Canada's The Tragically Hip this month released Secret Path, an album produced by Kevin Drew (Broken Social Scene) and Dave Hamelin (The Stills), accompanied by comic artist Jeff Lemire's graphic novel that together tell the story of Chanie Wenjack, a 12 year-old Indigenous boy who died 10/22/66 trying to walk 400 miles home in flight from residential school. This government-sanctioned church-actioned institution meant to cull and assimilate native youth into white Canada operated under shroud of secrecy until the 1990s, tearing at countless families and leaving tens of thousands of indigenous children missing or dead. Gord revealed his terminal brain cancer diagnosis this year, and is using his influence and the entire country's attention following this summer's historic Tragically Hip tour, to affect positive change that will resonate to the core of our nation.

Here is the 1967 article that inspired Gord's writing:

The album's beautiful often haunting music and storytelling and the weight of its topic matter are resonating with audiences and media throughout the country, but it's a topic that does not only live in our borders. So, I wanted to share it with you.

And all formats, including deluxe set with vinyl, novel, & ten posters:

It was adapted into an animated film that aired nationally on Sunday after a week of historic shows. Stream here:

Yeah this is pretty sweet. I shared that track on my facebook, since I know some people would be interested in the topic, or the Hip connection, or both.

If you haven't yet, please listen. It's a stunning record sonically not just emotionally.

thanks, modem. had my first listen to it in about a month and a half this, since the ottawa and toronto performances, and it has become even more of an emotional experience. get into it, if you haven't yet!

The music is now available on CD and LP. These, plus the Deluxe vinyl & book, should be in stores throughout the US in the next week:

This album is fantastic. I tried to order the comic, but it's currently on back order. Hopefully I'll get it eventually.

True! You should be able to find it. Try Amazon or Indigo. I'm surprised you'd not want the box set with vinyl & book. I guarantee you the vinyl and full package is beautiful.
