| Post subject: | Recommend me some new music |
It seems like it's been forever since I had time to search out new music or new artists. I've been so busy with the kids and work that I've mostly been listening to my music library for the past 5+ years. The death of the monthly CMJ cd and this forum has stuck a fork in my motivation. I'll buy a new album from one of my favorite artists if it comes out, but I haven't made much more of an effort beyond that. I recently jumped on the Spotify bandwagon because the wife and kids wanted a streaming service since they don't own any music. But now I'm making playlists of all the same old music that I was listening to... Is there any chance that you would like to recommend a couple of your top albums that you love from the past 5 years? Some of my favorite artists are: Spoon, INXS, Tom Petty, The Cult, Alabama Shakes, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Modest Mouse, Black Keys, Snow Patrol, Eels, Foo Fighters, Metric, Arcade Fire, REM, Crystal Method, Rodrigo y Gabriela, Morphine, Soul Coughing...basically nothing new... I'm not too into thrash metal or emo stuff...Mostly I prefer upbeat music that gets my head bobbing or my foot tapping. Musically malnourished, -Tim |

I thought a 100 songs playlist WAS narrowing it down! Anyway, I've semi-sorted my 2019 playlist so that the first 40 songs are of the rock/pop/indie variety, with the punk, acoustic, and electronic stuff jumbled up after that. If you like sassy, rawky, guitar-y stuff like Black Keys (and I'm assuming that's what Alabama Shakes are) then there's a sweet little run of Band of Skulls, Thee Oh Sees, 75 Dollar Bill, King Gizzard, and Possum to check out. If you want something familiar, the new Juliana Hatfield tugs on some strings, as does Clinic. I LOVE the new Meat Puppets album. Also love the new Redd Kross album. |

Also seconding Dreaded Marco's rec of Spielbergs. I haven't dug enough to determine if it should be a 2018 or 2019 release, but regardless of where it would end up it would be on a top list. |
