What are some albums that you simply did not "get" or enjoy until multiple listens or years later?

.Biggest one like this for me is Television: Marquee Moon. Thought is was a bunch of guitar noodly bullshit at the time. Now, I love it.

My Bloody Valentine - Loveless
It was just this wash of sound that went on and on. I found it remarkably boring until, one day, I sparked one up with a friend and he put it on and, all of a sudden, I HEARD it!

Elliot Smith, all of it.

Guided By Voices - Bee Thousand. I couldn't get past the lo-fi production.

This was similar for me, though not bc of the production--I was overwhelmed by the massive output, it's like a firehose. I never really knew where to jump in.

It's not that I didn't *get* him, but I was never a Tom Petty fan until very recently. That's where I'm at in my life right now.

First had this in high school, I think? It was too "primative" to me or something. I bought a used CD originally and then sold it. I came back to it in college or right after, and it became my favorite album.

Cocteau Twins - Treasure
Also bought as a used CD, in college I think, and didn't keep it for very long. It just seemed completely ridiculous to me with the wordless vocals and sort of posh goth aesthetic. I gave them another shot several years ago starting with Victorialand and then went back to this. I love it now.

Maybe it's time I give Elliot Smith another shot, but I kind of think that ship has sailed.

I was in the same boat. Had heard all about them as I was getting seriously into "other" music freshman year of high school. Found a used copy of Blue Bell Knoll. And I probably wasn't mature enough to appreciate it. Freshman year of high school I was all about SY, Half Japanese, Minutemen, and Iggy. CT just didn't fit into that grouping.

I've since come around to them.

Also I gotta say Brian Eno's Music For Airports is really hitting the spot right now. Ambient music never sounded so good.

Ashamed to admit it, but I never gave Rage Against The Machine their due. I filed them with all the rap metal abominations of the era (Limp Bizkit, Linkin Park... fuck, I don't even remember), and that was clearly a mistake.

These days I'm all in. Amazing band. Morello's a guitar innovator and possibly the only soloist on that instrument worth hearing since Robert Quine. Zack de la Rocha's lyrics and vocals are rough perfection. And even the rhythm section pushes in ways I didn't recognize at the time.

In short... dey goog.

You should check out Dope Body's album 'Nupping'. Not as political as RATM and way more noise rock than rap rock but the guitar is *chef's kiss*

The world's so topsy turvy, I don't know what up or down anymore, so this goes right in line with the globe slowing careening off the edge of a stack of turtles' backs.

I kept waiting for the turn in that post, but it never came. Color me surprised.
