Just as the topic title suggests -- what bands do you love, but fanbases you find deplorable?

There was a band Wheat from Boston. They made really good indie-pop ala Matt Pond & Pernice Brothers but the fans at their shows were all dude bros. I think Neuroboy is probably the only other one who could confirm this.

I remember Wheat! Not in from in person, but I remember they got play on Madison radio for a millisecond. "I met a girl I'd like to know better..."

I think that album was when I kinda stopped listening to them. The 2 before it, Medeiros and Hope & Adams, are fantastic.

I remember wheat but I can't comment on their fans.

I'm gonna say Radiohead.

This is more of a scene thing, but bluegrass festivals can be really polarizing places.

You've got the hardcore old-school grass heads who are only into the traditional sounds, while at the same time, you've got the progressive heads who are into stuff like Billy Strings. In the middle somewhere are hippies who just want to hoop during sets.

Those waves crashing together make things interesting. The internet brings the bickering to a new level. It's pretty annoying.

Maybe I'm not self-aware, or maybe I just haven't been exposed to hardcore fans? I definitely don't hold the opinion that they can do no wrong. In fact, I've been mostly bored with Thom and Ed's solo outings.

Maybe Springsteen.

It's not every Springsteen dude, but there's a certain brand of Springsteen dude I just don't have time for.

Sometimes fans of early Beastie Boys. Like, people who can't shout along loud enough to Fight For Your Right, but who have never heard anything off Hello Nasty.

Insert any Indie band here and the female fans. I find women at any Indie band concert to be the biggest snobs alive. Dozens of shows I've been to not one could I talk too. Didn't have this problem with any Classic Rock gigs.

Glad I checked back in on this thread

I don't really have a good example of this, but I thought of something.

I was pretty big fan of Pearl Jam as a teenager in the '90s, but I never managed to see them live until I was in college and they were touring for Binaural in 2000. It was a huge stadium show (something I'm not really used to) at Philips Arena, using the full length of it for seating. I thought I had gotten pretty good seats, but they were actually pretty far away, basically all the way across the court/rink from the stage, about midway up. Still could have been a good experience - PJ played a solid show and Sonic Youth opened - but the crowd was terrible. They completely ignored Sonic Youth, even when they played "Teenage Riot", almost drowning them out with talking. Then they pretty much drowned out Pearl Jam, too, singing along with just about every song. I mean, it's great that people know the words and all, but it was just like being sober at a huge shitty frat party with Pearl Jam playing on a TV somewhere across a parking lot. And being at Philips Arena, where alcohol is way overpriced and the lines to get it are super long, I don't get how everybody managed to seem so drunk.

I was pretty much over PJ after that, but it's probably as much to do with the fact that they haven't put out a good album this century as it is with my experience at that show.

Oh, and you could blame Pearl Jam fandom for Creed, Nickelback, and maybe Hootie and the Blowfish.

When I went to see Reverend Horton Heat there was a guy there in a Confederate uniform. At first I thought try-to-hard hipster, but it's possible he was the real deal? I don't think he was a Civil War reenactor...

RHH were amazing though. This was on their 25 to Life tour.
