I'm trying to get back into hip-hop/rap lately. In the past, the most I've liked are the older west coast shit like Dr. Dre, Snoop, Ice Cube, etc.

But thanks to Timis, I've listened to the new Jurassic 5 and enjoyed it.

I'm also trying to download Ghostface Killah and Mr. Lif, but haven't got 'em yet.

What are some other recommendations? I'm mainly looking for '06 releases, and then working out from there.

Spank Rock is fun throwback electro type shit, pretty cool

the new T.I. has good singles, but i wasn't that impressed with the whole album - at least download 'What You Know' or something

if you like J5, get the new Cut Chemist, it's much better although hes no DJ Shadow

Youd probably like Edan's album from last year, sorta psychedelic hip hop

I havent kept up with 06 hip hop as much this year, Ive mostly been listening to Jay Z and Gravediggaz lately

JR is one of the more "lyrical" / "rappers rapper" members of dipset

i can't believe it took him so long to have an actual album.

you might like Z-trip's Shifting Gears. came out last year. he's a turntablist, but almost every track has an mc on it. definitely has some old school flavor in it. feat. Soup (from J5), Lyrics Born, Chuck D, MURS, Aceyalone, Busdriver and a bunch more.
