he tends to be polarizing amongst casual and underground rap fans, leading to name calling and or actual discussion.

i love the guy.
it took me a while to get into him because i thought he was a hack when he first came out. (i like his first album now, but when it came out i only knew the singles and i thought he was horrible)

He's pretty much lead the way with creative production allowing the best to do whatever they want. Timbaland, Just Blaze, Neptunes, Kanye and many more have all given him weird and wonderful beats that normally wouldn't make sense on the radio.

He's a great songwriter, it never sound like a guy just rapping on a beat. It always sounds like they worked together to make a great song (well, not always, but often)

he's not the best rapper ever, or even of his own era . . . but he knows how to get a chorus stuck in your head with verses that keep your interesting the whole song. He's made more solid albums than i could have imagined and i miss having new singles from him all the time.

i think that it's got a chance.

on jay-z, he's the kind of guy that i guess i respect but he really never does anything that particularly interests me. i don't get mad when i hear one of his singles, and quite the opposite i like hearing it in a club or something, but by and large i'm just not compelled to listen to one of cds and neve have been.

i am jigga and enjoyed reading it.

well for what its worth i disagree with chase. i remember hearing can i get a fuck you for the first time and thinking man this guys tight on the mic, and he seems like the kind of guy who'd make tight singles etc etc. then i heard reasonable doubt and then some years later the blueprint then was even more impressed. that said, there's prbly some sort of (unbearably?) samey gimmick-ness to his rapping, but i like it, even tho not too versatile, he seems more than comfortable to hold his own within the scope of a specific track, not to mention cause he's more than often had had good producers to back it up/ afford it.

I think he's one of the more talented people in the radio/pop format of hip hop, and deserves credit for holding on to that as long as he has, but for the most part it's not my sound. I really like about 15% of his stuff, and probably hate the same amount. the rest is some big gray middle. I still think that Fog remix of " The Takeover" is fucking awesome, though.

I feel the same way Jewelz. It took me A LONG time to come aroudn to him as ana actual tallented musician. I always loved the singles, but was kinda meh on him for a while,. One of my boys gave me burns of all his albums, and I now pretty well think he's the dopest MC doin it today.

There are a few clunkers as far as tracks go and shit (Justify My Thug is one ofthe most boring fucking beats/samples ever, but dude always brings it with the flow.) And like Too Short, Jigga can make shitty rhymes seem tight, just cos he knows it don't matter.

i didn't get turned around on him till Vol 3 came out.
that album is so dark and raw, and it made me hear him for more than just a guy with pop singles.

and it wasn't untill i started DJ'ing club style hip hop that i began to really apreciate his pop songs.
