I was just about to make a thread.

I bought it this morning, since it came out today. For 15 bucks. And I love it.

I never thought them as hip hop.

Well, they ARE hip hop producers, first and foremost.

preface this with the fact that i'm a huge fan of prince paul's but have been usually let down by automator's work post ~1997. that said, half of this i love and half i can't stand, probably because i'm really a pretty stodgy purist with my hip-hop. my girlfriend seems to really like the songs that i really hate (like Are you down with it with mike patton, which i find unecessarially cloying like most songs that exist only for mike to show off that he can make some weird sounds and rap, the hours, where the nu-metal touches grate on my ears but the rest is ok, and breakdown with jack johnson, which like all previous jack johnson songs redefines the notion of insipid for the world). i suspect that there's something here for everyone but no one's going to find it a perfect album. to summarrize, i liked the first one a lot more. here you can definitely tell which touches are paul's and which are automators, and tell where they tried to combine paul's ability to add humor and wit to his compositions with automator's excellence at capturing the mood of claustrophobia in rock and mediocrity at picking an interesting beat.

both are hit or miss for me, less so for deltron than for lovage. automator seems to have lost the richness with the beats that his first ep had as he's gotten more into the rock sound. it worked on the bleak, post-futuristic approach necessary for deltron and some of the gorillaz stuff, but i'm just not that interested in it anymore.

Deltron is one of my favorite hip hop albums of all time I believe.

Lovage instrumentals are awesome...the vox ruin it.

The only thing that Automator has done that is sub-par to me, is Head Automatica, and I still enjoy that duo and dance to it a lot.

I love Prince Paul as well as the Automator.
I'm a huge fan of Deltron/Lovage/De La/Dr. Octagon/Wanna Buy A Monkey/HBMS's first record etc.
just about everything they have produced or contributed musicly.
But I gotta say that the new Handsome Boy record is total shit and there is not one good track on that whole record.
I think it's an overrated piece of shit.

Dont get me wrong, If they came out with another record... I prob. would buy it (thats how much i'm into them...kinda like Tricky).
