Some notes, explanations, etc. :

These songs represent to me the best of Prince. I originally made this compilation because I was really unhappy overall with the "Greatest Hits" cd that's out there so I decided to make one on my own. I thought, so much good stuff was left out but then again where exactly would I draw the line? I tried to include something from nearly every album but decided to leave out all of Prince's collaborations (The Time, Vanity 6, New Power Generation, Tevin Campbell, Martika, etc. etc) save for the Sinead O'Connor song which I like better than Prince's version. I also decided to try and keep this down to 3 cd's. Hard core fans will say: where's the stuff from Lovesexy?... The Batman soundtrack?...THE BLACK ALBUM???... but those albums aren't what I consider his essential music. I mean come on, how often do you want to throw on "Pussy Control"?...

The first disc has some Prince's best known hits and his underappreciated early work. The second disc continues in that vein and then branches out to include some great songs that were unjustly ignored by radio and the public pretty much for the most part. The third and last disc includes all of the soft ballads and slow songs I consider worth hearing.

I don't know -- The Time was more of a band thing (see how they continued even without him), but NPG was just another Prince backup band. Of course, this comes from the purely ulterior motive of finding a way to justify including Thunder in there somewhere...
