This is why I make such a lousy homo--I hate club music and show tunes.

That said, there's, like, six good songs on this list.

Then you're not.

I have a friend who became/realized he was gay, and before that, all he listened to was metal and prog and stuff, and now he listens to metal and prog and stuff...and Madonna...

um, you left off the gay national anthems "Over the Rainbow" and "Bridge over Troubled Water." I would also add Crystal Waters' "100% Pure Love."

"Bridge Over Troubled Water"? I've never heard of that song being any kind of gay anthem.

Then again, at the only Gay Pride parade I ever went to (probably '91 or '92) there was a point where a float (read as: flatbed truck of gyrating half naked guys) went by blaring some song and, instantly, hundreds and hundreds of people within earshot were happily singing along. I had no idea what the song was. Turned out to be "I Am What I Am" from the musical version of La Cage Aux Folles. I'd never heard it before.

Oh, and about the Abba thing: Abba was never a big gay thing in the U.S. until after Priscilla, Queen of the Desert (which was Australian, don't forget). We just go along with the Abba jokes because it would take too much time to explain this fact.

Yeah, really. It's a drinking song.

Yeah, that pretty much is what it is. Although I do admit to enjoying Rick Astley quite a bit.

For the record here I want to say that these songs aren't all bad...they just define for me my stereotype of flamingly gay men and give me a laugh.

NOT THAT THERE'S ANYTHING WRONG WITH THAT*

(* unless you really do like Rick Astley...because in that case then you really are a homo.)

Polly: (singing the Abba-sample melody from Madonna new single)

Polly's gay roomie: "Calling all gay men, please present yourself to dance floor immediately."

I guess I'm a pretty big fan of the 80s electro gay stuff:

Depeche Mode
Jimmy Somerville
Pet Shop Boys
(don't really know if New Order are part of this or not)
Soft Cell
Bryan Adams
etc. etc. etc.

Of course no one has mentioned the lezzies:
Indigo Girls
Ani Difranco
The Gossip
Joan Jett
um... help me out here...

sorry, guess I was misinformed about the Simon and Garfunkel song.... I'd heard it at a rally in Atlanta once.

ayah, I saw the Pretenders back in 98 or so... they played with the B-52's. Chrissie rocks. Nobody can fuck with that girl.

God is gay.

If I ever get them out of storage I'll post the lineup of three mixes I made called "Music for Homosexuals." Though there was a larger-than-average selection of homo and homette artistes on the tapes, they were really just party tapes for a yearly gay camp-out I went to. My kind of party tape--no disco, no show tunes, no gay anthems.

(Unless Joan Jett covering the theme from "The Mary Tyler Moore Show" counts.)

(Or Lulu's "To Sir with Love.")

Huh. Didn't want to know that if it's true.

I don't think she's gay so much as favoured (iconically) by gays.
