I thought it was gonna be songs pertaining to pub-rock bands, ala Brinsley Schwarz/Ducks Deluxe.

Bummer.

Fantaystik.

I was able to score the two Denim cd's on eBay this weekend, grabbed 'em based on the strength of this track--how can you not love something that references the Roogalator???

Hadn't heard that Radio Stars song before, but the two singles I do have are great, is just about everything Chiswick released. Strong stuff.

Coyote Shivers is another one that's strong enough to make me grab everything Amazon had for cheap. It manages to strike a really tight balance between sexual abandon and not being silly or crass.

Always great to hear DMZ, Boston had a tremendous scene for a while--beat NY to shit from about '78 through '83.

What's the deal with The Divorce? This song didn't blow me away at first or second listen, but damn if I don't dig it now.

All in all, this mix holds together extremely well, there's nothing on here that makes me want to hit the "Skip Track" button. Well done!

I've now got Coyote Shivers placed--dude reminds me a lot of John Otway. I got his double disk in the mail today, and lo and behold, it's an '04 release. Add that one to the year end list, baby.

Coyote Shivers has a new album out? I gotta look into that. The goofy teenager in me has always loved that line "you can suck my cock 'til a million o'clock."

I don't know much about The Divorce. That song comes from a compilation of Seattle bands that was handed out at Bumbershoot last year. It's the stand out, even though my first reaction to it was exactly like yours (meh). Definitely a grower. I'll keep an eye out for any future releases by 'em.

I should mention that the Mott the Hoople track is a live version from '71.

And the only two bands that were around in the ol' glory days of pub rock were the Doctors of Madness and Radio Stars, although a lot of the songs sound like direct descendents of the era.

Glad you're digging it, Billz. How's that Last Call (+ extras) sampler sitting with you?

Yeah, the Coyote Shivers is a 2CD set--one electric, one acoustic. It's got four of the five songs from the "1/2 A Rock & Roll Record" ep (which I also got, which is killer).

The Last Call comp i kickin'--I'm still digesting it, Pub Rock, as well as a kickin' Aussie Power Pop comp I scored on eBay. Been a helluva week and a half here.

How can you have a Pub Rock mix with no:
Brinsley Schwarz?
Tenpole Tudor?

I take personal offense.

Of course, this mix most likely kicks ass, knowing Radcliffe.
