Jesus, when did these go up?

Rads, seriously dude, are you about to die or something? Your work seems focused yet desperate lately. Hellhounds on your tail and whatnot.

Rads, I will be a little late on my reviews, but they're forthcoming.

Bama Lama is the new BESTSONGEVAR! My sis and I were rocking that at 3 am and knocking back shots of tequila.

btw, I was listening to this yesterday afternoon while I was trying to mine for some creativity. It definitely helped. GREAT mix. And you KNOW I love hearing the Coolies!

Listening to the first one now...really fun stuff...digging the J Giels version of Where Did Our Love Go?. The Mojo Nixon, of course, was funny. I've always loved that Pogues cover. And, I can't imagine not enjoying Gypsies, Tamps and Thieves.

I'm also grateful for that Coolies cover. I had that song on a cassette a long time ago but never knew who the band was singing it. I finally know.

Downloading the second volume now.

Looking forward to these, Rads.
I did the exact same thing a couple of months ago:

Of course, nobody paid attention to mine.

By the way, that Gen X cover is a freaking gem. Better than the John Lennon original -- it's angry the way it's supposed to be.

Thanks for that! I could never find it as JP song - and generally hate JP anyway - so that makes sense.

Just wanted to say thanks for these. I've had a great time listening to this today. It's funny though the rest of it is remarkably tasty, my favorites remain the first two songs - Frank Blank doing Jerry Lee and sweet, sweet Joan Jett. I hadn't listened to Mojo ripping up the Smiths in a long time either. Thanks again.

Goddammit, that mix was supposed to start with Jeff Dahl's version of Mott's "One of the Boys". I hate when I do that.

Edit: I'll re-up the mix with the Dahl song. And for anyone who already dl'ed the thing, here's an individual zip of "One of the Boys":

Can you Please Crawl Out Your Window is one of my favorite "underrated" Dylan songs...and the HS version is boss.

Funniest thing about these mixes is that in probably 60% I have no relationship with the original material.

Thanks again for the fine work, Rads. I look forward to these. Your record collection must be some kind of sweet. For what it's worth, here's my first impressions:

1. Fantastic
2. Too close to the original to differentiate the two.
3. Accentuates the lounge. Not bad.
4. Fabulous.
5. The Jayhawks vocals are irresistable.
6. I feel the opposite about Craig Finn's vocals.
7. Amusing.
8. One of the truly underated songs of the eighties. This almost sounds like the Silversun Pickups but in a good way. Great.
9. Faster and louder but not better.
10. Amazing how the Donnas always sound exactly the same even when they're covering something.
11. Uncanny vocal impersonation behind some fuzz. Alright.
12. Also too close to the original for me.
13. I need to listen to more of the Saints. The horns on this are great even though they're way to far up in the mix. Sweet.
14. Makes me think how much Supergrass sounds like Mott the Hoople.
15. It's hard to outdo great power pop especially when you don't stray very far.
16. Nice. I also need to listen more to the Paisley Underground bands.
17. You know what I'm going to say - too faithful to the first. Fun though.
18. I love Bobby Bare and I've always had an inexplicable soft spot for this song but this disappoints. Just sounds like a mess.
19. Anyone who likes Wire is alright in my book but ... (cue broken record)
20. Should be the song playing in the background of an Adam Sandler movie or a really bad wedding or both.
21. A friend of mine was telling me how much he hates the Replacements the other day. What a douche.
22. For all the energy, strangely boring.
