I'm going to put any more tenners I do in this thread.

The Lilac Time, one of my favorite groups. Pastoral jangly folk pop with strong songwriting, headed up by Stephen Duffy.

RIYL: Go-Betweens, Kings Of Convenience, Paul Kelly, Prefab Sprout, Michael Penn, Aztec Camera, Dream Academy, The Essex Green, pastoral folk pop groups that don't rawk but are bit too intense thematically to be called wimpy or cheesy, who make melody sound effortless and lyrics sound like they've always been there waiting for you.

Plasticland was one of the more memorable of the psychedelic/garage/paisley acts out of the 80's though their discography's not a snap to locate now. Lots of fun to listen to. They didn't belabor their songs. The whole tenner's just over 24 minutes. Unfortunately I don't have You Need A Fairy Godmother or Confetti so couldn't include anything from those.

Fatima Mansions were Cathal Coughlin's post-Microdisney group. Full of bile but also quite funny. RIYL some kind of Julian Cope/Ministry/Bahaus/Iggy Pop/Killing Joke blend of gothic industrial politic snarl-pop

Nice mix. My favorite tracks always rotate with this band. "Badge, Posters," what a fun tune. I always loved the guitar sound in the song "If I Had You" off that mini LP.

The Dream Academy were, like Timbuk 3 and Chumbawamba, cursed with THAT SONG; the song that played on and on and on and drowned out their careers, causing pop fans to think they were flash in the pan and indie fans to think they were too lightweight to bother with. The Dream Academy were exquisite, literate and memorable throughout their trio of albums, particularly the second one, yet were stamped "pussy band" anyway. This was a good group, a great one if you tend toward atmospheric britpop. Too pretty for some but certainly not lightweight. I didn't include better known singles like "Indian Summer," "The Love Parade," "Bound To Be," "Moving On," their versions of "Please Please Please Let Me Get What I Want" and "Everybody's Gotta Learn Sometime," "Love," or, of course, "Life In A Northern Town" because I like the tracks above better.
