Culled from the Time Life Classic Country 8-disc compilation. Here's my top 24. I suspect if you care about this music, you already have most / all of these, but if someone's on the cusp, this is a good intro. Thanks to Yail for upping all 8 damned-ol discs.

Shit, the whole mix is worth downloading if haven't heard tracks 2 and 3. Two of the best songs ever, anywhere.

Code:
http://www.sendspace.com/file/6a5brl

1. Patsy Cline - I Fall To Pieces
2. Don Gibson - Sea Of Heartbreak
3. George Hamilton IV - Abilene
4. Dave Dudley - Six Days On The Road
5. George Jones - She Still Thinks I Care
6. The Everly Brothers - Cathy's Clown
7. Roger Miller - Dang Me
8. Johnny Horton - North To Alaska
9. Johnny Cash - Ring Of Fire
10. Patsy Cline - Walking After Midnight
11. Tennesee Ernie Ford - Sixteen Tons
12. Hank Williams - Hey Good Lookin'
13. Marty Robbins - Singing The Blues
14. Tammy Wynette - Stand By Your Man
15. Marty Robbins - I Walk Alone (listen for when he clears his throat between verses - love that shit. And who the fuck knew ol' Marty could pull off soul?)
16. Johhny Cash & June Carter - Jackson
17. The Statler Brothers - Flowers On the Wall
18. Roger Miller - King Of The Road
19. Elvis Presley & The Jordanaires - Crying In the Chapel
20. Waylan Jennings - Only Daddy That'll Walk The Line
21. Merle Haggard - Mama Tried
22. Conway Fucking Twitty - You've Never Been This Far Before ()
23. Jerry Reed - When You're Hot You're Hot
24. Johnny Cash - Sunday Morning Coming Down

So yeah, some of this is obvious, but songs are included just in case you didn't have them.

huh. We should've collaborated on some sorta supermix.

right now I'm wondering if downloading both a 16 disc Jim Reeves box and a 9 disc Louvin one will just make me go insane or full-time drunk/religious.

I vote for "insane." Just downloading 8 discs was hard enough. I can't imagine upping all that shit.

Also, that Elvis song is heart-breakingly pretty. The vocal line is just so dramatic and well-crafted. Damn.

Mama Tried? Yeah that one's near the top of the pantheon.

My favorite old country band in college used to do a Merle Haggard birthday party show every year, for a good 5 or 6 years there. They'd have guests all night up on stage, and do 40 or 50 of his songs. Actually they used to do Sea Of Heartbreak too, which is where I knew it from.

Oh FUCK. One of the 8 cd's imported in a different format, so the artist column was f'ed up. I've been missing a whole disc worth - I just found it. And it's the oldest one, with more everly brothers, webb pierce, don gibson, jim reeves... I have more work to do.

Pretty much an overview of what used to play in my grandpa's house when I was little. Haven't heard "Dang Me" in a hell of awhile.

Dang Me is soooo good. There's a guy in madison, a friend of mine, who does these crazy cover nights at bars, where tons of girls show up and dance. I think him covering it is where I first heard it. He used to do a lot of these, really really well.

Hey Todd if your wife is digging this, she may like that Teddy Thompson a lot. I won't describe it again - feel like I've harped on it enough. Lemme know if you want it.

BTW, if anybody wants the whole eight disc set, shoot me a PM--I've still got them up.

Its a single link to a folder and then you pick which ones you want.

If there is, I don't wanna know about it.

I can't make eye contact with other people when it's on in the headphones.

"Mama Tried" may just be the best song ever in the history of the world.
