riyl? - define

I'm relatively new to this board and all the board-centric abbreviations.

The song 'Lawn Dart' is a tune that I first heard back in 92 or 93 when I was listening to a CMJ 'Certain Damage' disc while working at my college radio station. The song is both sick, funny, and quality. Definitely check it out.

Anyway, thanks for the positive re-enforcement on the mixes. I'll have to give the rundown on the other mix I made today. It's another mix of old and new material. It's for tomorrow.

I do have to say though, if you need a good name for a mix, you can always use this site: http://www.ruf.rice.edu/~pound/kungfu.html

Ah...ok. Basically, Ed's Redeeming Qualities, or at least this tune is kinda low-fi, folky stuff. The guitars are just strummed and the song has the pace of a walk down a dirt road. The vocals are nothing to write home about and sound like a couple of midwestern 20-somethings with passable singing voices sitting and singing on a porch.

The song itself is about how these two guys couldn't find a good game to play outside when they were having a Fourth of July picnic. So they ran to K-Mart to pick up a Lawn Dart set only to be told about how they were banned. The song tells the story of the girl:

"She was pegged in the head with a lawn dart.
Her Dad didn't see her, and that the worst part."

"Lawn Dart" is up there with "Take the Skinheads Bowling" as one of my favorite oddball tunes from my youth. Come to think about it, the song has a sorta David Lowry, Camper Van Beethoven vibe about it. Both the humor and the style of the music are comparable to CvB.

I've never bothered to check out any more Ed's Redeeming Qualities as I figured a full-length wouldn't be much to write home about. I may be wrong though.
