ian (duffer) asked me for a mix awhile ago and it took me a long time to finish because he knows my collection so well and i wanted it to really impress. so i couldn't throw on any of my usuals. i took some cues from a few mp3 blogs and some other things i've been listening to. i think this came out alright. the A-side is funk and soul, except for the gospel tune at the end. the B-side is a little more diverse. and ian seems to like it, so that's good.

Side A
*
McNeal & Niles – “Punk Funk”
Ruby Andrews – “You Made a Believer Out of Me”
Paul Kelly – “The Day after Forever”
Gus Lewis – “Let the Groove Move You”
Roy Ayers – “Can't You See Me”
George McCrae – “I Get Lifted”
The Nite-liters – “Afro-strut”
The Politicians – “Psycha-Soula-Funkadelic”
Curtis Knight – “The Devil Made Me Do It”
Bill Moss – “Sock it to 'em, Soul Brother”
Watts 103rd Street Rhythm Band – “A Dance, a Kiss, and a Song”
The Meters – “Wichita Lineman”
The Brewsteraries of Memphis – “It's Amazing”

Side B
*
Os Mutantes – “Panis et Circenses”
The Mo & Kris Le Mans – “Nostalgia Locomotive”
The Delays – “Ride it on”
Jon Brion – “Knock Yourself Out”
Umka & Bronevichok – “Kamenniyetsvetochki”
Mary Lou Lord – “I Figured You Out”
Neutral Milk Hotel – “Holland, 1945”
The Head Set – “Bonnie & Clyde”
The Ponys – “Little Friends”
French Kicks – “One More Time”
Razorlight – “Golden Touch”
Tegan & Sara – “You Wouldn't Like Me”
Hope of the States – “Everything for Everyone”
Cesaria Evora & Marisa Monte – “E Doce Morrer no Mar”

is this on a tape or are the "sides" more of conceptual "split" of the cd?

Great compilation, James! I can see why Ian would totally dig it.

thanks, tania. i've kinda been in a mix funk lately and haven't done much worthwhile, but i think that somebody specifically asking me for a tape picked up my spirits.
