are you using the free version of both of these?

Nope. Both Paid. I think free MusicMagic will support up to 20 tracks, though. MixMeister's trial version throws in promo messages, so it's not useful here but a good way to test the functionality

MusicMagic premium features (similar artists/albums, more/less like this, replace this song/artist) are worth the money, IMHO. For Mixmeister, it depends on how important song transitions are to you.

Hey sketch - is there any way to keep the program from picking the same artist more than once in a mix? I mean, I know the New Pornographers sound like the New Pornographers...I could put that mix together.

That functionality will be out in the next release. *cough* beta *cough*. If you've got the paid version, you can also do "Replace This Artist" or "Replace This Song."

Weird. I don't really see the connection.

I never cease to be impressed with how much songs that you never thought would sound alike actually do sound good on a mix together...this program hasnt failed me yet, although the mixes that end up with multiple tracks by the same artist bother me, I will admit.

The same artist thing is handled in the next release. I've tested the beta for it, and it works. Patience.

Have you tried MoodLogic? I'm trying it right now. MusicMagic worked well, but I got too many repeats even though I have over 34,000 tracks.

Given that the seed song was #1 on my song listmania, I'll admit the total package here leaves a bit wanting. Henry's my boy, but "Ghostrider" ain't the best start. Johnny Winter and Dick Dale lighten things up a bit to lead us into the first peak with a BR classic, my favorite Afghan Whigs song not on Gentlemen, and the title track. Things start to get a bit meh in the middle (for the awesome intro and breakdown, "Acceleration 5000" should be a lot more than it is). Nothing in the middle third is terrible but really great either. Sonic Youth starts to pick things up again. From there, we climb somewhat swiftly with Jimi and the Pistols, level out with Glenn and Page, and Ministry takes this fucker home. The live cut of Stigmata is the perfect ending to a mix of this sort. Overall, I'd rate this about a 6.5 or 7, but this thread's project has certainly yielded better results with other songs.

Rick Derris got and advance copy of this, and I've yet to hear feedback. I'm guessing this isn't a good sign.
