My name is Michael. I just discovered this message board, which looks pretty entertaining. A few things about me off the top of my head are, I'm a vegetarian, an alcoholic (not bragging, just being honest), and I'm unemployed which means I listen to music practically every second I'm awake. I was born in Chicago, live near there now, but I've spent the last few years in St. Louis and plan on moving back there soon.

Some of my favorite bands/musicians are the following:

Ours, Deadboy and the Elephantmen, Days of the New, Jeff Buckley, Morphine, Neutral Milk Hotel, Queens of the Stone Age, Sebadoh, the Apples in Stereo, the Decemberists, the Delgados, the Dirty Projectors, the Flaming Lips, the Melvins, the Pixies, and V.A.S.T.

My all-time favorite, since I was about five years old, are the Doors.

Some albums I absolutely love from this year:

The Arcade Fire - Funeral
Death From Above 1979 - You're a Woman, I'm a Machine
A.C. Newman - The Slow Wonder
Devendra Banhart - Rejoicing of the Hands
Iron & Wine - Our Endless Numbered Days
Rilo Kiley - More Adventurous
Frog Eyes - Folded Palm
Ted Leo & the Pharmacists - Shake the Sheets
The Black Keys - Rubber Factory
The Dresden Dolls - Self-titled
TV on the Radio - Desperate Youth, Blood Thirsty Babes

I suppose that's enough of an introduction. My AIM is thisotherkingdom as well, so feel free to IM me any time to chat. Especially now right now, since I'm buzzed and talkative! :D

Hi Michael. Great to have you onboard. WE have a lot of Chicago folk here. How did you find us?

My name is Colin, and I'm definitely with you on the Iron & Wine album. Also digging Devendra quite a bit.

I think I saw this board mentioned on the CMJ website, which as I see by that sticky thread, is pretty common. I found this and the CMJ website in the same day.

Hiya, Michael! Welcome to our lil' home. :)

I can see we're gonna get along just fine being that you're an Ours and Delgados fan! Didja know that Jimmy Gnecco and band are currently in LA working on their next album? If you hop in your car and drive over, you can catch Jimmy do a solo acoustic show in the next couple of days in a wee coffee house.

Hope you enjoy your stay.

Thanks for the welcome! Yes, I did know about Jimmy recording the new album out in L.A. right now. In fact, I just made a post about the band over in the rock topic to see if there were any other fans here, or perhaps recruit some new ones.

Hello Michael! Welcome. I greatly enjoy each of the 2004 discs you mentioned. Except the ones I have not heard. I'm not sure if I would greatly enjoy those, but probably.

Heya. My brother Michael used to live in Chicago. I'm pretty sure you're not him though since he's an odd recluse in my mom's house now.

Hello Michael,
I'm near Chicago too (western suburbs, actually).
Welcome to the OB!
