Being new to a message board always kind of sucks. But we'll see what happens. Since I'm here I obviously enjoy music a lot. My favorites...

The Residents
Sonic Youth
16 Horsepower
The Danielson Famile

Unfortunately that only scratches the surface, however, I'm sure there will be opertounities later on to talk about what is enjoyable.

Well, hello there, Sir Theory! Always wonderful to have new citizens among us. Nice taste in music. Who have you been totally diggin' on recently?

PS -- Did you bring any refreshments?

Your avatar is mesmerizing. It never stops!
Amusingly, "SirTheory" is the name I go by when "TheTheory" is already taken. So good guess there.

I just started my first semester of college, ever, this month. So I haven't had the time i usually have to just listen to music. I love the new Deerhoof, and just picked up the new Clinic after hearing a song in the music store. I'm wondering why no one told me about them before.

But yeah, I'm always questing for new, good music. I enjoy a variety of styles... but consider my nitche to be avant garde-related stuff.

I'm no ordinary moderator...I have special powers which is why I knew to call you "Sir Theory". I'm also full of shit.

Glad you found out about Clinic -- great band! Sadly, they give some of the shortest performances. I'll admit, over time, they have extended their sets with additional material. They'll be in Philadelphia on March 7th if you're anywhere near there. Definitely worth checking out.

PS -- Best of luck in college!

Tough one.

In no order (and subject to change):

Experimental Jet Set, Trash, and No Star
Self Titled EP
Dirty
Murray Street

Sure. Since it is a rather open ended question, I'll just list some other random things from my collection...

Captain Beefheart (Trout Mask Replica: horrid cover, crazy music)
Cat Power (I just recently started understanding why people like her.)
Steve Reich (Hey. The man is a genious. Different Trains makes me cry)
Sufjan Stevens (indie darling, why not?)
Comus (Because I'm always looking for music left of the beaten path)
The Denver Gentlemen (you'd like them paladisiac if you haven't heard them already)
Eagles of Death Metal (One of the best rock shows I've seen)
The Evens (better than Fugazi, dangit!)
The Fiery Furnaces (especially Reheasing My Choir)
Gomez (How We Operate was my 2006 album of the year)
Harry Partch (Odd-ball composer who created is own instruments)
Kelly Clarkson (She's hotttt)
Sixpence None The Richer (beautiful)
Man Man (the best live show I saw last year. mixing Tom Waits and Frank Zappa? Killer)
Melt Banana (specifically Cell-scapes. I haven't gotten into their older, shorter material.)
mewithoutYou (In an environment like this, I suppose it could be considered a guilty pleasure, but I sure don't apologize.)
Pattern Is Movement (ooooh. their CD Stowaway knocked me onto my heels)
Phil Keaggy (one of the best acoustic guitarists ever)
Philip Glass (specifically Einstein On The Beach)
Radiohead (OK Computer is overrated. But Hail To The Thief was great)
System of a Down (probably the most creative mainstream modern rock band)
The Twilight Singers (hits me where it counts)

If you really like reading, I highly recommend my top 30 of 2006 list. http://www.last.fm/user/SirTheory/journ ... 22/295725/ It's got some spelling errors and grammatical flubs, but I think it sums up what I am all about musically pretty well.

Nice! I saw 'central PA' and was thinking maybe Penn State (my alma mater), Bucknell, or Loch Haven. Guess I always thought of York/Lancaster/Reading as southeast PA.

Good to have you here, regardless. Welcome.

Thank you. Probably realistically southeast PA is a better term, but it is rather a mouthful. Plus, it is easy to just lump everything inbetween Pittsburgh and Philadelphia into "central" because it is the irrelavent area inbetween...

Reading is a good place. I go to church there, when I can force myself to wake up early enough to make the long drive.

Friend/colleague of mine graduated from there.

Are you from Millersville or surrounding area - be specific

Lancaster. Not born, but bred and indoctrinated.
Now I'm essentially living on campus... although I still consider that Lancaster.
