i cant remember if ive seen this in phpbb before, but in other boards there is a go to first unread post in thread feature. is this possible?

I'm quite sure this is already implemented. When you have unread posts in a thread, a little blue note appears before the title. Although the mouseover text says "newest", it actually takes you to your first unread post in that thread. The white note in the final column takes you to the latest post.

Am I wrong?

Yeah, i think that's because it takes a bit for the page to render, but I don't know if that can be fixed...

No, it's because it doesn't seem to update your last login every time you leave and come back. It has my last login at 11:57am, but I've come and gone tons since then.
