Yeah! Thanks for the nice welcome. I found this place by random, happy accident. What brings you to L.A. Are you in a band too?

Nope, just a native Angeleno who adores music.

Cool, I thought y'all were invaders from Hipinion.

Give us an idea of your tastes in music, so we can decide to enlist you on our side, or subject you to constant ridicule ;)

Well then, I guess you're in the right place. There are too many bands- too many shows to pick from here on any one given night. LOVE that. And I hardly ever meet a real live native, so that's special too. MERRY CHRiSTMAS!

Constant ridicule? Isn't that what the internet is for? I'm on my way to Bakersfield for some Christmas festivities right now, but I'll give you a quick list, so you can make fun of me while I'm gone. Let's see...

Standard Faves:
Nirvana
Hole ("Live Through This" only)
Fiona Apple
Ryan Adams (depends on the album)
All Skanky Dirty 70s Rock!
Nina Simone
Sonic Youth (depends on the album)
Doves
THE WHiTE STRiPES (best live shows- adore the spontaneity)
Cat Power (depends on the album)
Kings Of Leon

Newish Faves:
The Willowz
Joanna Newsom (Milk Eyed Mender)
Delta Spirit
The Procession
Band Of Horses
The Black Lips
The Kooks
The Duke Spirit
Cold War Kids
The Pierces

This is a partial just-off-the-top-of-my-head list and probably missing some obvious choices. I discover something new every day. Have you heard that Soko song "I'll Kill Her?" Stuff like that is a huge pleasure for me to stumble upon...
AND YOU???

If 70s SKANKY ROCK includes the likes of The Rolling Stones, then we can be friends.

And since FT probably isn't checking this forum, I'll just tell you that while you're in Bakersfield: "ACT NATURALLY!"

Aural Lang Syne,
Thanks for making me feel all warm & welcome. Your dancing kitty rocks. Do you know that Dirty Sweet is playing Spaceland tonight? If I wasn't dying of the world's worst cold, I would definitely be there. With bells on. They put on a great show- reminds me of the Black Crowes.

And, YES, Loogar, of course The Stones are on the list! "Beast Of Burden" is one of my faves. Billy & I do a cover of "Wild Horses" that's kind of unique- actually we haven't done that one in a while. Maybe it's time to bring it back out.

This will probably crack you up, cuzz it does me...

p.s. Why can't we embed videos? Is this a spam-prevention measure? I LOVE to embed me some videos.

Not to be too much of a dumb ass, but what does "Obner" mean or stand for?

Hey, Jo, sorry about embedding vids -- you guessed right, it's to prevent spam.

As for 'Obner' -- most of us spawned from CMJ's bulletin board. When they started having problems maintaining it, Haq Diesel was kind enough to create a new one just for us. 'Obner' is actually a typo to the word 'boner'. One night, one of our young members was piss drunk, posting online and that word came out. We thought it was funny and somehow it became our board name.

Oh whew! I thought it was some hot new catch phrase that every self-respecting music lover should know. Boner! That makes perfect sense. And now, I feel "official".

Welcome. Might I suggest moving out of the Introductions forum and into the Rock/Pop forum for quicker assimilation?

You may! I've read most of the recent rock threads. Just trying to get the hang of this place, before I start barging around. You all seem to have some real relationships & inside jokes running here- good to see but hard to just jump in.

You'll do just fine, Jo.

Btw, when do you perform next? I'd like to check out one of your shows.
