I can't stress how great Fogerty sounds. It's like they played a CCR tape and wanked on top of it.

i've got a special place in my heart for this era, despite the cheesy MIDI pan flutes and ultra bright keyboards. Without A Net was what really hooked me on these guys back in the day...plus i actually think Brent brings a lot to the table, which if i remember correctly is the complete opposite of how a lot of you guys feel.

I can't really even comment on Brent as a musician, but as a person he's such a GHOUL that he's always frightened me.

I like this era when they're on, and it doesn't devolve into elevator jazz and/or when the sound is balanced. Nothing a show where Phil is really high in the mix, or if they get to noodling and those pan floots and synths turn it into a fucking waiting room.

1990 was their first great year in a long time and last one ever, so yeah, I'm a fan. In addition to Without A Net, that first, tremendous Jerry Band record (also from '90) were huge for me.

Alright, which one of you is Nick Paumgarten?

The vast recorded legacy of the Grateful Dead

The article also re-enforced for me that Bruce Hornsby might well be a Greek God. The only keyboardist for the Grateful Dead not to die? Yes, & yes.

First Dead show I ever saw featured Mr. Hornsby on accordion. Interesting counterpoint.

from the article:
Quote:
A whole section of the vault housed the sixteen-track fourteen-inch reels from the Dead’s tour of Europe in 1972. Last year, the Dead released the entire tour: a seventy-three-disk boxed set containing all twenty-two concerts and more than seventy hours of music. It came in a small steamer trunk and cost four hundred and fifty dollars. A run of twelve thousand two hundred sold out in four days. It is a pinnacle of completism, by the standards of any genre, and even a diehard might find it a test of patience to work through twenty-one versions of “Sugar Magnolia.” I got bogged down somewhere around Luxembourg.

that's about where we stopped

I've been listening to this on and off today. Yeah, it's pretty terrible but miles better than Dylan & The Dead

I definitely identified with this. Although what ultimately killed me was Tennessee Jed. I just can't take it.

Tennessee Jed is a great song that should never show up more than once a week on a tour.

I'm supposed to see them tomorrow, I hope he's okay.

He looks to be fucked up on drugs or booze or something. But who knows, he's old and has been playing non stop lately and well . . . who knows. I hope he's okay.

godblesshim...of course he did!

kyle, i'd be shocked if this particular set didn't sell out by the end of the month if not sooner. personally, i would've loved to see this thing turned into a complete monster by including 5/5 - 5/9.

Jason, you've heard the Spring 1990 box, right? It's pretty fantastic.

And yes, all of these limited edition box sets sell out within days of release.
