I mean, I go to bigger shows sometimes, with my wife. And, she may come with me to this one. But, it is rare that I actually get to go to see a small club show, with a new artist that I am really excited about.
MAY 9
Cate Le Bon @ Schuba's, Chicago
Anyone else going?
You out there, Chicago?

I've never heard of her, but I've also never been to a bad show at Schuba's.

She is one of my favorite current artists. One of my favorite people to have emerged since the turn of the millennium.
She's not everyone's bag of weed, but... I love her.

Cate is indeed, great. I'm looking forward to seeing her again in London in May
and if she comes to your town don't think twice!

Just saw Andrew Bird, and before that Ty Segal, and before that Deerhunter. That's, like, 3 years worth of concerts for me normally, all since Feb. AND I bought tickets to go see Twin Peaks... Crazypants.

I went to NYC last weekend to see House Boat/Unlovables and I'm going to Philly this weekend to see Tacocat. I guess this is making up for the fact I've gone to no other shows yet this year.

I'm trying to still make it out to shows, even now living in the burbs with a wife and 3 year old. 3 so far this year with tickets for 2 more.

A friend of ours just gave my wife and I tickets to go see Bob Dylan and Mavis Staples.
Lawn seats, but... :rockbanana:  :rawk:

You are my hero. My kids aren't even born yet and I went to zero shows in 2015 and 2-4 per year from 2012-2014 (my now wife moved in with me in 2012).

That said, I hope to make some of the free shows at Stern Grove this summer: Janelle Monae, George Clinton, the O'Jays, and New Porngraphers are all on the schedule.

Twin peaks was last night. Neuro, the Mrs and I hit the bar, got beers and ear plugs, and retired to the balcony with the rest of the old people. Some band we missed, then Ne-Hi opened. Ne-Hi is good, but not as well developed song-wise or sound-wise as Twin Peaks. They just got signed to the same label, and all 3 are Chicago bands, and young as fuck. Watch for them, Todd.

Twin peaks was less excited about the "older" material from maybe 2 years ago, but they executed it well. You could just see a difference when they ripped into brand new songs, it was like they were trying to tear themselves apart, everyone leaning in to crank out harmonies, drummer singing along without a mic, just balls-out. Fucking good band. Big Stones influence, plus Strokes, and the Motown side of 60's pop. Small amps, cheap-ish guitars, no fancy tricks. Just kids in love with what they're doing. Shit that was fun.

I am going to Raffi this weekend in Boston. Probably not the same type of concert you guys are talking about though :-/

The sad part is that given how few concerts I make it to these days, I am definitely looking forward to it

If the new Twin Peaks is better than their older stuff I should look into it, since I liked their first album.

I see a lot less live music than in the past myself, really dropped off over the last year or so.

BUT, I did just get tickets to see Lee "Scratch" Perry, who will be playing the entirety of his Super Ape album in August.

I managed to go to 18 in 2015 and would love to try at least match that. Generally, as long as the kid goes down early enough, my wife is cool with me going out to a show. The main hindrance is usually me feeling tired the next day.

My life theory is "why go to concerts when you can binge drink yourself to death and listen to T-Rex while banging fat chicks?"

My wife and I haven't been hitting many shows either.

There was a time when we were literally doing 3+ shows every 2 weeks.

Then it became a chore to drive to DC or Baltimore during the week.

Then it became a chore to drive to DC or Baltimore on the weekends.

Now, it's pretty much a chore to drive to DC or Baltimore anytime.

I'm on bucketlist patrol but, there's only a handful left that I really want to see of that group.

Just went to this show last night. Mavis was great. Bob was... playing a whole lot of those Frank Sinatra covers from his newest album. We wound up leaving early because, who the hell wants to hear Bob Dylan sing "Strangers In the Night"?
He did do (a nearly unrecognizable version of) "Tangled Up In Blue" but that was about the only thing that I almost recognized. I mean, he sounded pretty good, but...
Not saying that he should do a greatest hits show, because he still is making music. But, this is not the Bob that I wanted to hear.
Anyway, it wasn't worth staying up any later for these old cockers, so we left. It was near the end anyway, I think.

Do any of you remember 90 Day Men? The dude from that group is playing the free show at the Empty Bottle tomorrow.

Last week I saw Brian Wilson & company play Pet Sounds in it's entirety and a bunch of other hits. And despite it being September, I'm on a huge Beach Boys/surf music kick.

Going to see Dinosaur Jr. with my 17-y.o. son at Metro in early October.

This year, I went from attending 100+ shows a year to probably less than 30.

I went to 3 shows this year, counting my friend Ben Trickey's record release show. (It was a great show.) The other two were Joanna Newsom and Chris Cohen.
