An auction lot threw up some odd stuff earlier today, this curio being the pick of the box, featuring Barry 'Van der Valk' Foster
reading cosmic poetry in a Peter Wyngarde stylee over gentle light jazz and funky flute. I couldn't find much about it other than it does
turn up occasionally and it's such a chilled and lovely listen, it's also fully signed by John Hayward, Giovanna Gottardo, Frank Stafford & Barry Foster.

really cheap finds from the Reading record fair yesterday, unsurprisingly nothing more than £1

Image

The future saint had a go at the charts with this EP in '79

Image

Image

Another crumpled wrinkly face on this 7" from '73

Image

Image

I showed this test press LP find to a dealer at the fair and for some reason he gave me a right old bollocking for buying it!

Image

I got more funny looks for buying this too, but some folk can be a bit weird at record fairs.
The rear of the sleeve indicates it's for Capricorn's, I assume the full set has the same front cover?

Image

a few 50p finds

Image

Image

Image

An odd choice of backing band perhaps and it may even be signed!?

Image

Image

Best find of the day was this old fanzine from '91 which had the Cocteau's/Lush/Moose flexi freebie intact

Image

The T-shirt will probably be worth a few quid now too

Image

This flyer was tucked in the back pages

I won these 2 x 102 year old 78's in an auction last night for £1 each

Image
They are both from 1914 this one has parts 1&2 on each side

Image

This one is very scarce and I could find nothing about it online, the flip is a soldiers singalong,
blissfully unaware they were no doubt marching towards their deaths.

Yes, more bloody records bought in charity shops, a record fair and an Xmas treat to myself online as I can't rely on Santa to deliver.

Image
The Crauford pub in Milton Keynes has a busy fair for such a small venue.

Image
4 x new vinyl bargains at under £8 each, the guy had loads but many I already had.

Image
Happy punters buying my £2 - 3 x £5 records

Image
I probably wasted my pound on this US sports album but it came with a cool booklet of other sports albums
(which I'm a sucker for) and inside the LP were also a newspaper and the original mailing envelope and a letter!

Image

that is one hell of a big trophy

Image

Image

Image

Image

Another nice £1 find was this spoken word/SFX album in Quad!

Image

I can never resist the odd single...

Image

Image

How nice to come home on Sunday afternoon to find the postman called with something very heavy addressed to me.

Last vinyl finds before Xmas

Image

I'd never come across this school musical album or the label before, it had a massive cast according to the sleeve notes.
Check out this download Leather Girls

Image

Image

In the same box was this heavy vinyl test pressing of a really lovely recording of seasonal music.

Image

Image

I found this at the local record fair t'other week and have just got round to hearing it, this too is a delightful listen
and it was based on a book by Pete Wood.

Image

Image

Recorded in a church on the tiny Isles Of Scilly with money raised from it's sale going to R.N.L.I.

Image

I was very pleased to pick up a copy of Peggy's first UK release from 1957,
the 10" sleeve has a bit of damage but the disc is excellent.

Image

I guess it was just good timing but I popped into a charity shop and was digging through
a box out the front when the lady asked if I'd like to see the others that were out the back - music to my ears!

Image

There was nothing to get too excited about but I found a few things

Image

I could work out Nigel's scribble on the back but god knows who the other two are.

Image

Image

Best in the bags was this curious EP from the early 70's by Art Shane Georgie And The Kiddelicks, it's Reggaedelick man!

Image

Image

Sadly not signed but this 7" has a suitably daft sleeve, Mel seems to have a bit of an Adam Ant/Julie Andrews thing going on...

Image

You'd have to be one cool cat to receive this Rock 'n' Roll flexi-birthday card

Following on from my Doors collection auction win yesterday it bugged me that there were some albums missing, Waiting For The Sun in particular.
So I went back earlier today and they said ah yes there was one box that didn't get put in the earlier lot (I had a gut feeling in my waters) and hiding
in amongst all the Mantovani and James Last there it was (in mono too) along with a couple of other odds and ends, I offered a fiver for them and they said sure,
oh happy Friday!

Vinyl I seem to have have accumulated in the past week or so, some keepers & some to go

Image

I met an old boy at the market who told me he wanted to get rid of a load of Elvis records,
so I took his address and went round to his house to see them. However, they were all scratched
to heck and these were the only LP's that I came away with. The Red Rum one I'd never seen before
and the one below is an interesting Mark Wirtz production.

Image

Image

I picked this folk album up a couple of weeks ago with an auction lot and what a lovely listen it is too.

The band are pictured pottering about on the back of the sleeve.

Image

Image

Two albums recorded live in a London pub which I dug up at the tip shop,
this one has a once heard, never forgotten version of The Beatles A Day In The Life.
You may wish to download it here
Code:
https://www.mediafire.com/?z50a2a8y75od18p

Image

Image

On Volume 3 the stand-out track is a drum heavy take on Rock N' Roll part 2
I may need to dig deeper to find Volume 1 of this series.

Image

Image

A nice collection of the all the 60's PE flexi-discs compiled on one LP

Image

Image
A well spent pound for this action movie soundtrack from 1967.

Image
"sorry doctor, but I think I'm physically unable to leave BBC theme albums in charity shop boxes..."
doctor : "that's OK you only paid 50p for it, if it's rubbish it might be worth a pound"

Image
I found this signed C&D album last week and would you believe I saw another one in the wild only just this morning
but I left it, as even I really don't need two!

Image

Another cheap find was this Miles Davis album with a great gatefold sleeve.

Image

Image
Charity shops do turn up the weirdest stuff sometimes, I picked this up for the tracklist alone.

All sorts of records have turned up in the past week or so, from the quite rare to the just plain stupid, but I love them all!

Image

Yes, this really is what it says it is on the sleeve, the other side is like totally tartan, mon.

Image

Image

In the same box as the Tartan album was this vanity project by some Disco/Jazz Funkateers from the late 70's,
a fancy sleeve housing a one sided 5 track especially embossed gold disc. It must have cost quite a bit to
make these even then, but it's a shame the music didn't have the same attention to detail.

Image

Image

Image
Volume 2 of the lovely sound of whales, I probably have vol 1 somewhere...

Image
This was a surprise charity shop find, in with some other interesting stuff like The Birthday Party,
Pavement etc, I took an arm full to the counter and was all ready to pay whatever they were and
the lady said "all the records are 20p" and as I took an intake of breath she followed it with "EACH!"

Image
The sleeve of this took my eye and turns out be a lovely compilation of ladies performing in the 30's

Image

It's always good to find an NTC - a Nice Topic Compilation

Image

Image

Private pressing 7", signed label, local band, but it's a bit rubbish to be honest.

Image

Image

An early Xmas treat (for me) with spoken word/songs, a picture flexi-disc on a label I'd not seen before
I doubt it's the Planet label, but cheers anyway Santa!

Image

Image
A good addition to my football records collection which takes up half a shelf now.

Vinyl odds n' ends I seem to have accumulated in the past week or so.

Image

These were an unusual pair to find, a Monkees oddities compilation from '69 and a solo Monkee LP
comprising of instrumental versions of tunes also recorded at various times by The Monkees,
this was Michael Nesmith's first solo release from '68.

Image

Image

A Canadian double album which teaches the art of turntablism via an identical 2 x record set
to be played off against each other, it was supposed to come with a book but sadly not included.

Image

Image

A live recording in front of what sounds like an entirely male audience but it's not even half as cheeky as I'd have liked.

Image

Image
A record shop purchase - The Wit & Wisdom Of Nigel Farage it's a completely silent on the A side however,
the B side's remix adds tumbleweeds and birds in between the quiet bits.

Some of the more unusual 7"s that I dug out of the garage of some old bloke who rang me up.

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

pretend signed on the back and actually signed on the front!

Yeah, got really cheap deals on the Bo Diddley and Orlons records after digging for a while. Had to pay a bit more for the Alton Ellis, but it's one of the cleanest, quietest Jamaican pressings from that era I've ever come across.

This nearly slipped my net but I'm glad I checked out these 2

Image
Cheesy sleeve + Easy instrumentals on this French twist of Handel's tunes.

Image

A sweet surprise was this LP released on Tangent in 1972 by a singer I was previously unaware of,
featuring a mix of songs and poems with sleeve notes by Ted Hughes.

Image

Image

Another delightful find was this pretty hippy selection of songs/instrumentals about women and the moon.

Image

Image

A pair of 50 pence sevens, the CD4 record is a Japanese Quadraphonic Test disc

Image

Image

A brace of School Choir private pressings

Image

Image

Image

Cheesy listening with a bonus insert

Image

Image
TV themes overload

Image

Xian Folk from '71 complete with hymn-sheet

Image

Image

I picked up this lovely single a while ago and I like the cover so much it's been sitting on the mantelpiece since.

The first outdoor boot of the year kicked off with all sorts of finds although the
78rpm and this album below came from a charity shop on a short trip to Sheffield.

Image

This album caught my eye when I saw the 2 x ABC Hit Band track on the back,
and the Space & Deodato covers did indeed turn out to be the only reason to pick it up.

Image

Image

Also on a night club tip is this one sided vinyl invitation disc in a gatefold sleeve for the
Chicago Rock Cafe which opened in Northampton 20 years ago but closed down 10 years ago.

Image

Image

Just hearing the voice of Johnny Morris brings back fond childhood memories.

Image

Image

Image

Image

I found one of these Italian cover version albums battered to death years ago
so was chuffed to bits to find a tidy copy, complete with it's misspelt tracklisting.

Image

album odds 'n' ends

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

these 2 discs turned out to be my favourite finds of the week, a 78 from the early 40's

Image

and a 45 from the early 60's

recent vinyl finds from the fields

Image

Some odd things have turned up this week, I was most pleased with this US promo LP released to radio stations
in 1973 featuring specially recorded 30 second messages to discourage folk from doing heroin.
A friend burned me a CDR years ago which had a few of these tracks on but I'd never come across the whole album before.

Image

Image

Image

In the same £1 box was this album produced by Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard which has some great Jazz Funk tracks.

Image

Image

This was cat nip to me and the guy said "that LP is 10p" so I gave him 20p just to be sure!
It had 'A Fennell School Production' written on the sleeve and has DER 1190 matrix
so if it's some long lost Deroy test pressing I've no idea but maybe someone knows more?

Image

I picked up a handful of 50p singles

Image

Image

Image

Image

The A side turns out to be quite scarce but it was the B side that I was more curious about.

Image

Image

One of my fave 70's tunes on a US mono/stereo promo

Various vinyl things found on a short trip to the chazzers of Sheffield and the boots of Northampton

Image

I was indeed "gassed" to pick this up in a box on a Northern shop floor,
Penthouse was first published in 1965 so this was a vinyl tease I doubt few men back then could resist!

Image

Image

This turned out to be a really sweet listen, all covers from the White Album in a cool plinky plonk stylee,
I believe that's what the Jazz cats say.

Image

Image

nothing more than £5 a pop from a more sussed than usual car boot seller

Image

+2 original Blind Faith LP's (phone = the missus)

Image

cheap 7" odds & ends

Image
this is actually an unusual Charlie Hyatt & Bam ‎comedy disc from '66 titled Rass!

Image
4 tunes from the '59 film of the same name by the Cockney cheeky chappie

Image
I'm still not quite sure what Errol was singing about on this early 70's demo

Image
early 60's TV themes including the puppet version of The Goon Show

Image

A single sold exclusively on cruise ships in the early 70's with music composed on this one
by the same chap who did The Amazing Electronic Arp Synthesizer albums.

Image

I have uploaded the A side as it's kinda funky & worth hearing : here

Good finds in the fields this week although I did get some CD's from Barnardo's

Image

The lady on the stall told me the 7" chocolate record was long gone (probably eaten 60 years ago!)
but this sleeve alone is still a great find and is a direct copy of a scarce mid 50's Jazz 10" album
by Ginger Folorunso Johnson And His Afro-Cuban Band

Image

This is the original sleeve which even has the same catalogue number MLP 508

Image

Image

This may claim to be The Ancient Helston Furry Dance but it sounds like something else more familiar,
hear for yourself : listen

Image

Image

Eric & Ernie mucking about on a promo single for a Hi-Fi company - hear side 1

Image

2 oddities in the same 50p box

Image

Image

Image
A nice discovery along with some other Folk albums on Trailer and Topic

Image

Best find of the week was this Trojan compilation from 1970 - originally released in '67 on Sue

Image

one of the best CD comps I have picked up for ages, the 2 tracks by Lucille Bogan alone make it worth tracking down!

Various vinyl finds in the past 7 days - I picked up a collection of "Gilles Peterson type stuff" after some chap phoned me up.

Image
I have volume 1 and this is the other one, I don't think there is a third.

Image

I guess the bestest bits were a pair of Moodymann releases, one twelve one + double album.

Image

Image
I'd not come across this US 7" before, it's nearly 20 years old!

Image
I have the CD single of this somewhere, but this was a lovely 12" copy of one of the most beautiful versions of this tune.

Image
soooo mysterious... and quite frankly after a while soooo annoying!

Image

An early Bert album alas without it's original sleeve but still worth 50p to me, also in the same box another cheap treat.

Image

Image

A good addition to my flexi-discs collection as the copy I already have of this doesn't have this card backing, which to be honest it's pretty useless without.

Image

I have cherry picked the stuff I have actually heard of or ones I didn't already have but have put 3 boxes of D&B and House 12"s
in the shed.

Doing the rounds over the weekend I found that village car boots can turn up allsorts of unexpected goodies

Image

including a fantastic score from one box alone, full of Indian records

Image

My guess is that a relative had died as the 2 ladies getting rid of these just wanted shot of the lot for £20

Image

The midweek lunchtime boot (when all the young, slim and beautiful people are probably still at work) turned up some nice things.

Image

Image
I'd never seen or heard of this before and in lovely condition too.

Image
Not come across this 12" before either, but records by Northampton bands do turn up from time to time.

Image

A nice old 78 and some curious 45's cropped up

Image
Shame it didn't have it's original picture sleeve but I could hardly leave this now could I?

Image

A couple of Christian sevens, love those titles!

Image

Image

I have many sports related records but this Rugby League EP was a fresh discovery
download Super Hull
Code:
http://www.mediafire.com/file/4vj9sp7pa5wtilv/Super_Hull.mp3

Image

Image

In the same box was this IN YOUR FACE ROY CASTLE! reading stories on one side with his Christian mates doing likewise on the flip.

vinyl finds this week, I didn't buy most of the albums below - only one in fact, but I did pick up a lovely single

Image
The cars line up for the mid-week car boot watched by an eager punter

Image

I only found one thing apart from some stuff for the car, this foxy single that was still in it's mailer envelope
and was only 50p - it looks like it has never been played, though I am a bit of a sucker for these kind of records!

Image

I did a tip shop trip to the darkest Kettering/Corby hunting grounds but didn't turn up much
except for some cheesecake sleeves for organs (?!) which I kindly left for some other lucky digger.

Image

Image

have you ever found yourself feeling a little transparent? then the following album could be your salvation

Image

Image

I've seen a few choir records in my time, but never signed by the whole choir on the back!

Image

popping into a couple of charity shops on my way home (as I tend to do)
I was quite surprised to see a high pricing system going on for the records - which are coming back, did you know?

Image

compared to Boy George, the one below was probably a bit of a bargain

Image

next door they had a much more sensible pricing structure

Image

luckily I did find one thing in the box

A few vinyl finds in the last week or so, there were more but these are actually the highlights!

Image

Perhaps only a tip shop could turn up an oddity like the record below,
I first noticed that she was quite uncomfortably squeezed into her dress
and then pondered when the B.A.R. decided to change their name.

Image

Image

A couple of nice charity shop finds this week in the same box were this Stones LP
which I didn't realise was a picture disc (despite the sleeve saying so) until I checked the records condition

Image

sitting pretty next to this wee beauty in a pound box!?!

Image

The car boots turned up a few treats including a near mint copy of this LP I'd not come across before

Image

and a lovely German box set

Image

The only 7"s I picked up were a couple of flexi-discs and these 2 from '72

Some really great stuff. I've never seen a chocolate record before. And that Teenage Fanclub for a buck is a fantastic find.

Anyway, found a couple I've been wanting to grab for a while.

Image

First Subhumans album from Canada. Great stuff if you like DOA and such. Also, a single from DA, an early Chicago female punk group that sounds a lot like Siouxsie and the Banshees.
