Jazz specifically.

really interesting reports about the plight of older jazz musicians--from poor living conditions/lack of healthcare/lack of backpay for royalties; and how some are trying to rectify the situation. It's been a weeklong series and they've covered a different aspect each day. There's a link to the stories at http://www.npr.org. Thought some might be interested.

Yeah, I heard one of these stories yesterday----the one specifically about health care of the uninsured elderly jazz musicians. Really interesting stuff.

It's a multi parter they've been doing it all week. I heard the one The Dreaded Marco did. The worst part was how Jazz musicans hate the union so they don't go that route & end up elderly, uninsured & broke.

My grandparents were close with the Chess family; yeah THAT Chess family. My mom played with Leonard's daughters and even hung out at the studio in the early-mid 50's.

"All I knew was that there were a bunch of black men walking around with guitars," she tells me. "I had no idea who they were."

DAMN!

Still, I imagine the Chesses had to be mentioned in there somewhere?
