on a related note, has anyone else noticed the rash of commercials with people online at work? there are at least a couple for expedia and some others for poker sites or whatever. i found them to be amusing a few weeks because what i got out of it is that employers weren't minding so much anymore their employees being online. huh...

as far as online usage goes:

the pc has made workplace efficiency explode....lets face it we are doing a hell of a lot more work than we were 10 years ago....more work than we were 5 years ago before the office had high speed internet access....

if we 'surf the net' an hour or even 2 a day....they are still getting more productivity out of us than they were 10 years ago.....

and i'll bet that productivity has done better than 'keep up with our 'cost of living raises''....imo

Ay, caramba!... I must offer a sincere apology to the Cap'n.

Yes, I found a good bit of glee posting in the Anything Goes! (where very little is safe for work) forum, but I won't anymore. Only pictures of baseball players and SFW pictures of hottt rock goddesses.

I also will (severely?) limit my at-work posting, though I had been doing that for the past two weeks or so anyway since volume in the office had been at a record-high [sic], the "okey-doke" as one of my co-workers put it.

And, a peace-offering to the Cap'n and wife: drinks and dinner on me, once you get on your feet, or before, whatever. I am not such the sex-crazed dork as which I present myself here, either. So, I'll be on good behavior.

Brutal, you've got my condolences. I'm joining the ranks of those no longer posting from work. The witch-hunt into the Anything Goes forum was frighteningly eye-opening.

I could probably talk my way out of Rock/Pop and The Mix, which are the only places I hang out, but I wouldn't want to try to explain the presence of the other forum.

It sucks, because I generally work a 12+ hour day, so it's not like I have a lot of personal time to do this from home. That's always been my justification for whatever surfing I do from work. I'll miss the back and forth pace, alas.

Cap'n, like everyone else, I hope you score a new and decent gig soon.

Two questions:

1) What's the title of the thread where you linked to the evil guy's site?

2) Do you want me to destroy him? I will. Seriously.

This is awful. Cap'n, I feel for you. I've always had a bad feeling about the NFSW forum and always thought it was a bad idea. This board is a lot of fun and we've all been doing this for a long time, most of us for years, but I don't think it's worth losing your job over.

With that said, I think it's time we really considered a private forum or one with no photos. I hate to say it, since I was a huge fan of leaving it behind, but something like the CMJ board. Or we can just simply return to CMJ, where there's a moderator who will monitor what goes on.

Personally, I really can't lose my job right now and a situation like this can make one worry a little.

Still, what you did is nowhere near as blatant or directly self-incriminating as what I did, and this whole thing is pretty surprising. This is some of the craziest shit I've ever heard of.

This warrants a new thread.

That's some nice image manipulation, polly.

The software allows us to limit registration and viewing to those we know. Notwithstanding concerns about future firings, I really dislike the idea. Even if we did it, it means no one gets in unless they have good references, and members can't browse when they're logged out. As spooky as this situation was, I think that in general nobody needs to worry about anything like this unless they're making the kind of direct and incriminating references to their work that Cap'n did.

Thanks.

Yeah. My suggestion was more of an excuse to make a silly photoshop picture. Although it is a little freaky. I guess it was more the thought that just any random person could sign up and start posting abusive stuff. But I guess that was always the situation with CMJ and that it has improved a lot since then.

Yeah... we should be... free...man.

As funny as it may sound, I don't wish that bastard any ill will. At least not personally. Do I find it hilarious that he claimed rights on deciding what is and isn't patriotic? Yep. Do I chuckle when I think about him lecturing me on karma and politics? You betcha.

But at the end of the day, I don't really care what happens to him. I posted from work. I gambled with a job I loved. Yes, the slackers around me chatting for an hour every morning instead of working lulled me into a false sense of security.

But the blame for leaving all that gunpowder laying around rests with me... I can only cry so hard when the pile goes up.

***Thanks for the good wishes all. I have called everything from electricians to bike shops to the local german dept to become a tutor. So far a few promising leads but overall no luck. Gabon, think nothing of it. I know what it's like to be mistaken by comments on the board. That guy thought he was getting to fry Michael Moore at the stake... I'm much more Howard Dean.
