I've always grown up around Dr. John, but never really took the time to listen to any albums. I bought this album, and was like holy shit. This must have freaked people out when it first dropped. Had to have been on of the craziest albums of 69'.

I remember my dad playing his records when I was young, but it was always stuff like "such a night." I thought that was all for Dr. John.

Have you, (or anybody else for that matter) ever heard the Van Morrison album, "A Period of Transition"??

Dr John produced and I think plays on it and I have always thought it was fantastic.

Don't have my copy with me, but pretty sure the Dr. Played on APOT. Haven't listened to it in a long time, never listened to it much. I remember being really disappointed in it after waiting 3 long years for a new VM album. I'm a VM fanatic, but The Eternal Kansas City is over 5 minutes of pain.

The Doctor's output has always been kind of spotty to me. Gris Gris is fantastic and was pretty much a rocket out of nowhere when it was released. Last year's Dis Dat or Duddah, or whatever it's called, is as good as anything he's done in a long time

No, and I need to fix that.

Great album. He's a real character too. There's a great interview with him in the April issue of Mojo in which he discusses getting started in the business, drugs, sessions with Zappa, Van Morrison & John Lennon, and Zappa calling the cops on him among other things.

np: Lucinda Williams "Car Wheels on a Gravel Road"
