but the undercard is much better this year.

To a certain extent yeah, but then again looking at the line-up again, most of these bands have played LA in the past 6 months so it's redundant imho. Not to mention the electronica line-up gets weaker every year. DJ Krush & Roni Size- I'm stoked to see, as well as Matt Dear (he is my techno god) and Josh Wink... Four Tet, Sixtoo, & Diplo as well. But yeah... oh whatever, I'll shut up because I'm still going and will have fun regardless. ;)

If they add Beck to the line-up again this year, please put him on a bigger stage. That's all I ask. The thought of that crowded tent horrifies me (almost passed out from claustrophobia/heat exhaustion).

Jimi's throat...
News
Hi,

Yes sadly it's true. I've been told to rest my vocals for two to three weeks. Coachella aside, it's postponement not cancellation! We are already tentatively re-scheduling.

Sorry some people had to find out via Capitol's website and not ours but we had to let biz types know first, i.e. venues, promoters, stylists, personal assistants etc...(alright...not the last two!).

We're truly gutted but it's got to be right long term.

See you all soon.

Jimi, Andy, Jez, Martin
P.S.coming soon...a picture of my throat!

i'm still bummed about the choice tonight between bauhaus and bloc party. i know what i should do but that bloc party album is so damn good that peter and friends may need to be missed.
so are we getting together? honestly, i have no idea when we could schedule a meeting time b/c the shows are so packed full of awesome bands.

That's a nobrainer, choose Bauhaus. Bloc Party are doing a US tour after Coachella and I'm certain you'll be able to catch them elsewhere.

sorry aural.
i chose bloc party and it was absolutely fantastic. my friend went to bauhaus and that was also great according to him (peter murphy came down from the rafters hanging upside down and started their set off with Bela Legosi's Dead). i see your point and i'll be seeing bloc party in salt lake this month but it was still just awesome. only outdone this weekend by arcade fire who absolutely blew everyone away. wish you were there! (hope scotland was fun)

All my friends are raving about this weekend too (*jealous sneer*) and am glad you had a great time!

Scotland will indeed be a blast! It can't be any less. :)

ok here's my review. a bit late but this week's been kinda crazy...

saturday:

radio 4- as usual, lots of energy on stage and played a lot from gotham! (struggle, calling all enthusiasts, our town) and less from stealing of a nation (which i don't like with the exception of a few songs). left early to go check out the raveonettes.

the raveonettes- awesome, awesome. there's this one song i really dig that i haven't heard before (think it's off the new album) that really caught my attention... they called it "minimalistic soul" and i guess that's the best way you can describe it. they also covered an oldie (i think it was my boyfriend's back, i forget) which surprisingly sounded good.

razorlight was good as well. homeboy climbed up the stage and was singing from there... thought he was going to fall. haha. after that, caught rilo kiley (only a few songs) and then went to see wilco... but for a moment there i couldn't handle wilco due to certain circumstances so i left and went to go see cafe tacuba. even though i didn't understand a word they were saying, they were awesome and unfortunately i left after 3 songs to catch weezer- solely for the fact i absolutely adored them in high school and i was extremely disappointed. SOOOO boring, no emotion, rivers sounded like shit and he's such a pretentious fuck that there seemed to be no emotion coming from them. ugh. i should've stayed for the rest of cafe tacuba b/c i heard they did this awesome synchronized dance after "eres" so i was bent about that. i ended up going to the sahara tent for josh wink after that... at certain points he was really "ravey" but he threw down some classic tracks- "don't laugh" and "higher state of consciousness" and it was fun dancing to some techno b/c i needed it at that point.

after that was bauhaus. that was so awesome... it was visually stunning (all black & white) and my jaw dropped when i saw peter murphy hanging upside down from the stage in the intro ... it took me a minute to realize wtf was going on. unfortunately missed bloc party, but between the two- i chose bauhaus. bloc party i've seen before (and heard the tent was too crowded) and they'll be back in la in june.

then- my favorite act of sat. night was spoon. well, before that was mercury rev- caught the last song or two, dug what they were playing and the lighting on the stage went really well with their music. however, i think they fucked up the sound for spoon because they were 25 minutes into their set and so the set was cut short (BOO!) but still... it was the one act that i was anticipating on seeing again and of course, because i friken love britt daniel. from what i remember, they played i turn my camera on and sister jack off the new album, lines in the suit, me and the bean, small stakes, the way we get by and jonathan fisk- and at the end of jonathan fisk, they were jamming. i wanted more. damn it.

sunday:

went to see jem first- not my thing, got really bored, so tried to catch the end of autolux but didn't catch that much... went to see matt dear, friken jacked my body. didn't think i could be dancing at 3 in the afternoon but i did. after that i went to go see m.i.a. and good lawd, that woman is where it's at. seeing a bunch of hip-hop kids and hipsters mixed up together rockin out was a sight to see. the funny part was dodging the swarm of bees in the back... and when she was done with her set, no one would leave and kept chanting M.I.A.! M.I.A.! and she actually did an encore. who the fuck gives an encore on a non-mainstage at coachella? busted the remix of bingo. i can't wait 'til the m.i.a./lcd soundsystem show in a couple of weeks.

so after that, i plotted myself near the mainstage. went to see the futureheads, whom i've been looking forward to seeing for awhile and they absolutely rocked. i think i'm still deaf from being up front. but my highlight was gang of four. it was truly amazing to witness someone like them who've influenced so many bands today- and during damaged goods i was a one woman circus... although yeah there was too much filler between songs and they cut the set short (which left me wanting way more)... i would absolutely love to see them in a small venue. they played not great men, return the gift, to hell with poverty, damaged goods, and errrr i forget what else...

new order was good. the sound was off a bit and bernard's voice was off during the oldie classics (bizarre love triangle/regret/blue monday) but surprisingly sounded good during the joy division covers of atmosphere, transmission, and love will tear us apart. although- it just isn't the same without ian curtis obviously, but i was very appreciative to see them live- especially seeing peter hook play bass, b/c he's my favorite bassist of all time. the one thing that almost killed it for me was the sample of kylie monogue they played during the intro of blue monday, i got soooo mad.

arcade fire. i couldn't fuckin believe how many people were at that stage... after seeing them at the troubadour just a few months ago, it amazed me how big they got over the months. pretty much played the same set from that troub show, but they still are amazing performers.

NIN- i actually enjoyed them. took me awhile to get into their set, but by the 3rd song i was into it. trent still looks good. but i'm not a huge NIN fan, so i left early to go see the faint and the faint absolutely had the crowd going nuts and gave me more energy for the night. after caught blackstar, and it was dope to see mos def & talib together- i think i left before common came out... but all in all sunday was definitely my favorite.

Bauhaus the night before were certainly fun (actually, just the crowd was pretty fun), but did not do those sorts of theatrics.

What's with his stick thingy? Weapon, wand, compensating, what?
