From the site:

Indy uses an advanced collaborative filtering system to predict what kind of music you'll enjoy hearing. As you rate songs, Indy finds out what you do and don't like. It compares your preferences with the ratings of all the other Indy users. For example, if you rate a song highly, and another user also likes the same song, Indy guesses that you'd probably like other music that they enjoyed. As you rate more songs, Indy will gets better and better at picking songs that you'll really enjoy.

Indy contains no adware or spyware.

It's totally legal because the artists freely give their music to Indy. So far, i have not recognized a single band I've heard and I've liked a lot of them so far. But since the software is so new, not enough bands are featured. This will probably change as it expands.

This was predicted in Jonathan Franzens National Book Award winning novel, The Corrections.

Seriously, though, if Indy was combined with eigenradio and used as market research software, it would be precisely what a character in Franzen's (2001) novel made lots of money off of. and we'd be screwed, probably, if it actually worked, because the aesthetic would be coopted by the science of musical commodity.

Why don't I remember that. For some reason I barely remember that book.

How Brian Callahan got rich, and later hired Denise Lambert to be chef for his restaurant . . .

I like to read books while listening to the books.

See, I always have a crisis trying to rate on these things. This jazz tune is probably a 4, but I don't want to get stuck listening to nothing but jazz.
