Lou Reed is this guy's mentor.

You probably already knew that.

Pretty cool that he's guests on "Fistful of Love" then.

First listen = not too bad
Second listen = holy crap, this is great

I picked it up at a store in town because I didn't really know what to get and I remembered hearing about it on here and it was cheap. I didn't listen to it much at all at first but a few weeks later I put it on and thought it was great.

Whenever I put it on in the store, people end up asking me who it is. Unless they're the hip-hop kids coming to by their 50 Cent and Sean Desman. Then they make sarcastic comments under their breath, thinking I can't hear them.

Anyway, the first thing I remember thinking when I picked up the packaging was "Oh no, this is going to be really gay." Maybe it was the sticker saying that it featured Boy George, Rufus Wainwright, and Lou Reed. The first time I listened to it, I thought "Yep, I was right." but I have a thing for off-kilter vocals and it's really grown on me since.

I love his voice immediately, and I've generally loved the record since the second I've heard it. All weirdness of topic matter aside, I think some of the instrumentation and arrangements become a little cheesy (but because I hate using that as an adjective I'll say ... colourless, instead), and the album fades a bit at a point. So, I'd never say it's great, but it is really good.

I'm very excited to see him and his Johnson (?) play with Six Organs of Admittance and Current 93 at a small church in Toronto next month.

My dad also likes this record, and by default, the rest of my family, too. I love how he filters and distributes the music I give him. (Him and my sibs would've actually been seeing Low the same night as the above, if they hadn't cancelled.)

Is that the same church where the Magnetic Fields played last summer? I was supposed to see that but didn't end up going.

It might be the same church: St-George of the Martyrs or something like that.
