I swear people just go there, look at the rating, and split.

i really only read the ones of bands that i'm interested in. if the review has some stupid ass theme to it, then i just do what's quoted above.

have any of you guys who dont like Pearl Jam ever LISTENED to No Code or Yield? Live on Two Legs? Any of the Live albums they have been released? Not indie enough?
yet another practitioner of the theory that "anyone who doesn't like what i like is either ignorant or wrong"! it's like a breath of fresh air, really. of course the people here don't spend their time actively listening to shit, we're all just cast offs of a community that doesn't know what to do with ourselves without CMJ to tell us what to think! help us mighty georgian, show me the fucking light!

for what it's worth pj sucks and has always sucked.

i tend to read the reviews that:
- have a "noteworthy" rating (so, 8+ or 3-)
- are on a known artist
- are written by someone i know or respect

i find that most reviews are actually fairly even-handed and somewhat boring, but the vitriol thing had mostly disappeared. i dunno, i just didn't know it was hip to actively hate on a band that doesn't matter to most people anymore.

A. I was really just asking if anybody had listened to those albums; not offense implied to those who may have taken offense EXCEPT...

B. ...You Chase because i dont really care about your opinions anyway...

...so go fuck yourself

oh no! yail bloor doesn't think that my opinions are QUAL! i suppose that all is lost and it's back to the lonely comfort of my neckbeard. thank god i didn't impugn the ability of my fellow posters to discern the indie flavor of the month from the quality of a recording or he might have just started calling me names.

It's the Mark E. Smith pronunciation.

I think he has a valid point...the author of the review certainly sounds as if he is basing it on how he feels, in retrospect about Ten and VS., and it wouldn't surprise me if most people posting in this thread do the same thing with this band.

Pearl Jam is a band that actually DID get better while barely anyone was watching (listening) Yield is easily my favorite album, whereas Vitalogy is a steeming pile of shit, and "Spin the Black Cirlce" is/was/always will be pretentious shit.

I think Yail was basically trying to say that he sees Pearl Jam (or Oriental Pearl Cream, as I used to refer to them) as one of the many bands that even if you don't like, you gotta respect. (He can feel free to correctify me if I'm wrong)

AMG's review is much more even-handed, if not particularly informative

Looking at the track listing for this best-of, it sucks that they left off "Grievance", the only good song on Binaural. The whole reason I bought that album was that I saw them perform it on Letterman.

Also, AMG gives Pearl Jam albums really wierd ratings. Yield gets 2&1/2 stars while Binaural and Riot Act (which I admittedly haven't heard) 4 stars?

There are parts of No Code and Yield that I still like, btw. Also, I wouldn't call "Spin the Black Circle" pretentious, just hilariously overwrought.
